Description

A financial technology and electronic trading team in Estonia is seeking a Trading Systems Developer to contribute to the development of high-performance systems supporting algorithmic execution and automated financial-market activity.

This is a technically demanding position for a developer who enjoys working with real-time systems, complex data flows, trading algorithms, and performance-sensitive infrastructure. You will collaborate with quantitative developers, traders, researchers, and platform engineers to build systems that operate reliably under rapidly changing market conditions.

Core Responsibilities

  • Design and implement high-performance components for algorithmic trading and electronic execution.
  • Develop software responsible for order management, routing, execution, and market-data processing.
  • Build reliable interfaces between internal trading systems and external financial-market venues.
  • Optimise critical code paths to reduce latency and improve system throughput.
  • Develop systems capable of processing high-frequency market-data streams.
  • Support implementation of algorithmic execution strategies developed by quantitative teams.
  • Analyse execution behaviour and investigate latency, slippage, rejected orders, and other performance issues.
  • Develop simulation and testing environments for new execution algorithms.
  • Conduct performance benchmarking and stress testing before production deployment.
  • Build monitoring and alerting capabilities for critical trading components.
  • Maintain strong software-engineering standards across code quality, testing, version control, and deployment.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure teams to improve system resilience and operational performance.
  • Participate in technical design reviews and contribute to long-term trading-platform architecture.
  • Document system architecture, interfaces, algorithms, and operational procedures.
  • Continuously evaluate new technologies that could improve trading-system performance and reliability.

Candidate Requirements

  • Strong professional experience in trading systems, algorithmic execution, low-latency development, or financial technology.
  • Advanced programming ability in C++ and/or Python.
  • Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, concurrency, and performance optimisation.
  • Knowledge of financial markets, order books, market microstructure, and electronic execution.
  • Experience with real-time systems and high-throughput data processing.
  • Understanding of networking concepts, distributed systems, and Linux environments.
  • Familiarity with exchange connectivity, FIX, APIs, or proprietary trading protocols.
  • Experience developing automated testing and simulation environments.
  • Strong debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with quantitative researchers, traders, and software engineers.
  • Relevant degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, physics, or another quantitative/technical discipline.

What Makes the Role Attractive

This opportunity places software engineering directly at the centre of algorithmic execution and modern financial markets. You will work on systems where performance, reliability, and precision matter, while gaining exposure to quantitative strategies, market microstructure, execution technology, and institutional trading infrastructure.

Ideal Candidate

The strongest candidate will be a highly capable engineer who enjoys solving difficult performance and reliability problems. You should be comfortable working close to the market-data and execution layer, capable of reasoning about system behaviour under pressure, and interested in continuously improving both the technology and the execution outcomes it produces.
