Description
About the Company
Our client develops decentralised finance applications and blockchain protocols designed to support on-chain financial activity. The organisation focuses on protocol sustainability, incentive alignment, and data-informed economic design to support participation across decentralised financial markets.
Role Overview
The company is seeking a Token Economist with a strong interest in decentralised finance, mechanism design, and quantitative research. You will analyse how token incentives influence liquidity, user participation, governance, and protocol performance.
In this role, you will work closely with protocol engineers, product teams, and researchers to assess economic mechanisms, identify vulnerabilities in incentive structures, and recommend improvements that support sustainable protocol usage.
Key Responsibilities
- Research economic mechanisms used in decentralised finance protocols, including lending markets, liquidity pools, staking systems, and decentralised exchanges.
- Evaluate incentive programmes designed to attract liquidity providers, borrowers, validators, and other protocol participants.
- Model the relationship between rewards, fees, capital efficiency, liquidity depth, and protocol usage.
- Analyse the economic effects of token emissions, reward reductions, fee distribution, and liquidity mining programmes.
- Investigate incentive misalignment, mercenary liquidity, reward dependency, and potential governance manipulation.
- Conduct scenario analysis to evaluate protocol performance under different market and participation conditions.
- Work with blockchain engineers to assess the economic implications of proposed smart contract and protocol changes.
- Analyse on-chain data to understand participant behaviour, capital flows, reward effectiveness, and retention.
- Evaluate mechanisms for protocol revenue generation, treasury management, and long-term incentive sustainability.
- Contribute to governance proposals and economic recommendations for protocol upgrades.
- Prepare quantitative research reports and communicate findings to technical, product, and leadership teams.
- Develop monitoring frameworks for economic risks and unexpected changes in participant behaviour.
- Keep up to date with DeFi research, mechanism design, and emerging token incentive models.
Requirements and Qualifications
- At least 3 years of experience in quantitative economics, financial research, DeFi analytics, tokenomics, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of decentralised finance mechanisms, including liquidity pools, staking, lending, and governance.
- Experience with quantitative modelling, statistical analysis, and scenario testing.
- Proficiency in Python, R, SQL, or comparable analytical tools.
- Familiarity with on-chain analytics platforms and blockchain data structures.
- Understanding of economic incentives, market dynamics, and mechanism design.
- Ability to assess trade-offs between protocol growth, economic sustainability, and risk.
- Strong research, documentation, and presentation skills.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with distributed engineering and research teams.
What We Offer
- Remote working arrangement from Estonia, subject to employer policy.
- Competitive salary aligned with experience and expertise.
- Opportunity to influence economic research and incentive design for DeFi protocols.
- Collaboration with blockchain researchers, protocol engineers, and product specialists.
- Access to on-chain datasets and analytical tools.
- Professional development in decentralised finance and digital asset economics.
Application Instructions
Candidates should submit a CV detailing their experience in tokenomics, DeFi research, or quantitative financial analysis. Please include examples of economic models, research reports, protocol analyses, or on-chain data projects where possible, and explain the analytical methods and conclusions behind your work.
