Position Overview

We are looking for a commercially aware Foreign Exchange Market Research Analyst to analyse currency market developments and prepare research that supports trading, risk assessment, and client market updates. The successful candidate will monitor macroeconomic indicators, central bank communications, geopolitical developments, and market sentiment to explain movements in major currency pairs.

This position combines economic research, quantitative analysis, and financial communication. The analyst will work with market-facing colleagues to turn complex information into clear, evidence-based insights while maintaining a disciplined distinction between observed market conditions and uncertain forecasts.

The role is suitable for a professional with a strong interest in global financial markets and the ability to interpret economic data in the context of foreign exchange trading.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor major currency pairs, including EUR/USD, GBP/USD, USD/JPY, and other relevant FX instruments.

• Analyse economic releases such as inflation, employment, GDP, trade balances, and business activity indicators.

• Review central bank policy statements, interest-rate decisions, and forward guidance from institutions including the European Central Bank and the US Federal Reserve.

• Assess how changes in interest-rate expectations, economic conditions, and geopolitical developments may influence currency markets.

• Prepare daily and weekly market briefings, currency outlooks, and event summaries.

• Identify important technical price levels and combine chart-based observations with fundamental analysis where appropriate.

• Maintain economic calendars and highlight upcoming events that could increase volatility in selected currency pairs.

• Analyse historical market data to identify trends, correlations, volatility patterns, and potential changes in market behaviour.

• Collaborate with dealing, risk, and client-facing teams to communicate relevant market developments.

• Produce research notes that clearly explain assumptions, supporting evidence, uncertainties, and possible alternative outcomes.

• Review the accuracy of previous forecasts and document lessons that can improve future analysis.

• Follow internal research standards and applicable requirements governing financial communications.

Candidate Requirements

• A degree in Economics, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related discipline.

• Experience in market research, financial analysis, investment research, treasury, or a comparable analytical role.

• Strong understanding of foreign exchange markets and the macroeconomic factors influencing currency valuations.

• Ability to interpret economic data and central bank communications.

• Experience using Excel and financial market data platforms.

• Familiarity with technical analysis, statistical methods, or programming tools such as Python is beneficial.

• Strong written communication skills and the ability to explain complex developments clearly.

• High standards of analytical independence, accuracy, and professional integrity.

• Ability to manage multiple research deadlines in a fast-moving market environment.

• Professional proficiency in English; additional European language skills are an advantage.
