Description

Position Summary

We are seeking a technically capable Payroll Systems & Reporting Analyst to support the accuracy, functionality, and continuous improvement of payroll technology and reporting processes. The role combines payroll data analysis, system administration, report development, and process testing to help ensure that employee compensation information flows reliably between HR, payroll, and finance systems.

The successful candidate will work with payroll specialists, HR teams, finance professionals, and technical stakeholders to investigate system issues, validate payroll data, improve reporting quality, and support the implementation of new system features.

This position is ideal for someone with experience in payroll operations or HR systems who also possesses strong analytical skills and an interest in business technology. The role emphasizes practical systems support and data quality rather than software engineering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and review payroll system records, configuration data, employee compensation fields, and payroll-related reporting parameters.

  • Validate data exchanged between HR information systems, time-and-attendance platforms, payroll applications, and finance systems.

  • Develop and maintain recurring payroll reports covering salary costs, deductions, allowances, payroll exceptions, headcount, and other relevant metrics.

  • Analyze payroll data to identify anomalies, inconsistencies, duplicate entries, missing records, and unexplained changes between payroll periods.

  • Support payroll system testing before updates, configuration changes, and new functionality are introduced.

  • Prepare test scenarios and verify that salary calculations, deductions, leave adjustments, and reporting outputs behave as expected.

  • Investigate system-related payroll issues and coordinate with software vendors, IT support, and internal technical teams.

  • Document system configurations, data definitions, reporting procedures, recurring issues, and approved workarounds.

  • Assist with the development of automated reports and standardized validation checks that reduce manual processing.

  • Support user access reviews and follow established controls for handling sensitive employee and compensation data.

  • Help prepare payroll data for internal audits, reconciliation exercises, and management reporting.

  • Gather user requirements and translate them into clear system-support tasks, report specifications, or configuration requests.

  • Identify opportunities to improve data quality, system usability, and the efficiency of payroll reporting workflows.

Qualifications and Technical Skills

  • Degree or diploma in Information Systems, Accounting, Finance, Business Analytics, Human Resources, or a related discipline.

  • At least two years of experience in payroll administration, HRIS support, business reporting, finance systems, or data analysis.

  • Strong spreadsheet skills, including pivot tables, lookup functions, data validation, and reconciliation techniques.

  • Experience with payroll software, HR information systems, ERP platforms, or business intelligence tools.

  • Familiarity with SQL, Power BI, or comparable reporting technologies is an advantage.

  • Understanding of payroll processes, employee compensation data, statutory deductions, and payroll reconciliation.

  • Ability to investigate discrepancies systematically and communicate technical findings to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Strong documentation, organization, and problem-solving skills.

  • Awareness of GDPR, access controls, and secure handling of employee data.

  • Ability to manage assigned tasks independently while collaborating with remote teams.

Working Environment

The role operates within a digital-first environment using payroll applications, HRIS platforms, spreadsheets, reporting dashboards, and issue-tracking tools. Collaboration with HR, finance, IT, and external payroll-system providers will be essential to maintaining reliable systems and accurate payroll outputs.
