An innovative fintech organisation in Estonia is seeking a Lead Payments Infrastructure Engineer to build and operate the technical infrastructure behind reliable, secure, high-volume payment services.

This is a senior engineering position for someone who can combine deep technical expertise with strong ownership of infrastructure, resilience, and financial transaction processing.

The Opportunity

You will play a central role in designing payment infrastructure capable of supporting real-time transaction processing, external financial integrations, reconciliation, and continuous service availability. You will work closely with backend engineering, security, product, data, and operations teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect and improve highly available payment infrastructure and transaction-processing services.
• Design scalable systems for payment initiation, settlement, reconciliation, and transaction lifecycle management.
• Build and maintain reliable integrations with banks, payment providers, and financial platforms.
• Establish monitoring, observability, alerting, and incident-response practices for critical payment systems.
• Improve system performance, fault tolerance, disaster recovery, and operational resilience.
• Contribute to cloud infrastructure and infrastructure-as-code initiatives.
• Review technical designs and provide engineering leadership across complex projects.
• Identify infrastructure risks and implement appropriate controls.
• Support engineering teams in improving deployment automation and production reliability.
• Participate in technical strategy and long-term platform planning.

What You Bring

• Significant experience in backend, infrastructure, platform, or payments engineering.
• Strong knowledge of distributed systems and cloud-native technologies.
• Experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Excellent understanding of APIs, databases, messaging systems, and service-oriented architectures.
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD practices.
• Strong understanding of security, reliability engineering, and production operations.
• Experience in payments, banking, fintech, or another transaction-intensive environment is highly valuable.
