We are seeking a highly experienced Lead Digital Payments Engineer to design, develop, and scale the technology powering modern payment services. This role is ideal for an engineer with strong knowledge of transaction processing, payment integrations, distributed systems, and high-availability financial platforms.

You will provide technical leadership across payment engineering initiatives while working closely with product, security, infrastructure, compliance, and operations teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable payment-processing services and transaction workflows.
• Build integrations with banks, payment service providers, card networks, wallets, and financial APIs.
• Develop reliable systems for authorisation, routing, settlement, reconciliation, and transaction status management.
• Improve platform performance, availability, observability, and fault tolerance.
• Lead technical design reviews and establish engineering standards for payment services.
• Investigate complex transaction failures and implement permanent technical solutions.
• Collaborate with security teams to protect payment data and transaction infrastructure.
• Support automated testing, continuous delivery, monitoring, and production-readiness processes.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to technical strategy across the payments engineering function.

Candidate Profile

• 6+ years of professional software-engineering experience, preferably within payments, banking, or fintech.
• Strong experience with Java, Kotlin, Go, Python, or comparable backend technologies.
• Excellent understanding of APIs, microservices, distributed systems, databases, and event-driven architecture.
• Experience working with payment processing or other high-volume transaction systems.
• Strong knowledge of cloud infrastructure, containers, monitoring, and automated deployment.
• Excellent problem-solving and technical communication abilities.
