An established technology organisation in Estonia is seeking an accomplished Financial Technology Engineering Manager to lead high-performing software teams responsible for building secure, scalable, and resilient financial technology infrastructure.

This is a leadership position for an engineering professional who combines strong technical judgement with the ability to build teams, establish engineering standards, and deliver complex financial systems at scale.

You will be responsible for creating the engineering conditions required for reliable fintech products—from architecture and development practices to observability, security, deployment, and long-term platform performance.

Core Leadership Responsibilities

• Lead and develop multidisciplinary software engineering teams.
• Establish engineering objectives aligned with product and business strategy.
• Oversee the architecture and delivery of scalable financial technology platforms.
• Drive engineering standards across code quality, testing, documentation, security, and reliability.
• Partner with product leadership to translate business requirements into executable technical strategies.
• Review architectural decisions and guide teams through complex technical challenges.
• Establish effective CI/CD, observability, monitoring, and incident-management practices.
• Promote secure software development throughout the engineering lifecycle.
• Improve platform performance, availability, scalability, and maintainability.
• Manage technical roadmaps, engineering capacity, dependencies, and delivery risks.
• Mentor engineering managers, senior engineers, and technical leads.
• Participate in recruitment, performance development, succession planning, and team-building initiatives.
• Collaborate with security, compliance, infrastructure, data, and operations functions.
• Establish engineering metrics that provide meaningful visibility into delivery and platform health.

Technical Environment

Experience with modern backend architectures, distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, microservices, APIs, databases, event-driven systems, containerisation, and automated deployment environments is highly relevant. Exposure to payment platforms, banking infrastructure, financial APIs, transaction processing, or other regulated technology environments is particularly valuable.

Candidate Requirements

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant technical leadership responsibility.
• Proven experience managing engineering teams in a technology or financial-services environment.
• Strong understanding of software architecture and distributed systems.
• Experience delivering production-grade systems with demanding availability and security requirements.
• Strong knowledge of modern development and DevOps practices.
• Demonstrated ability to recruit, mentor, and retain high-performing technical talent.
• Strong product and business awareness alongside technical depth.
• Excellent communication skills and confidence working with senior stakeholders.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline is advantageous.
