Description

Position Overview

We are looking for a Site Reliability Engineer to improve the availability, performance, scalability, and operational resilience of cloud-based financial technology platforms. The role combines software engineering, infrastructure operations, automation, and production incident management to ensure that critical services remain dependable as transaction volumes and customer demands grow.

The successful candidate will work with software engineering, platform, security, and infrastructure teams to establish reliability standards, automate operational processes, monitor production systems, and reduce recurring service disruptions. The position requires a practical understanding of distributed systems and the ability to use measurable service objectives to guide reliability improvements.

This opportunity is appropriate for an engineer who enjoys solving complex production problems, improving system observability, and building operational practices that support secure and continuous service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain reliable infrastructure for customer-facing applications, APIs, payment services, and transaction-processing systems.
  • Define and monitor service-level indicators (SLIs), service-level objectives (SLOs), and appropriate service-level agreements (SLAs).
  • Develop monitoring, alerting, logging, and tracing solutions to identify performance degradation and service interruptions.
  • Participate in incident response, technical investigations, root-cause analysis, and post-incident reviews.
  • Automate repetitive operational tasks through scripting, infrastructure tooling, and software-based operational solutions.
  • Improve system scalability, fault tolerance, capacity planning, and recovery procedures.
  • Maintain and optimise cloud infrastructure, container platforms, and distributed application environments.
  • Support disaster recovery planning, backup validation, resilience testing, and business continuity requirements.
  • Analyse system performance metrics and implement changes that reduce latency, resource consumption, and operational risk.
  • Collaborate with developers to improve application instrumentation, deployment safety, and production readiness.
  • Develop runbooks, operational documentation, and incident-response procedures.
  • Contribute to on-call support arrangements and continuously improve incident handling practices.

Candidate Requirements

  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent professional experience.
  • At least three years of experience in site reliability engineering, production operations, platform engineering, or cloud infrastructure.
  • Practical experience with a major cloud platform such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Strong knowledge of Linux, networking, DNS, TLS, HTTP, and distributed application architecture.
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform.
  • Proficiency in at least one scripting or programming language, such as Python, Go, Bash, or JavaScript.
  • Familiarity with observability platforms such as Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, or equivalent tools.
  • Understanding of incident management, capacity planning, automated recovery, and service reliability metrics.
  • Ability to investigate production incidents systematically and communicate technical findings clearly.
  • Experience supporting financial services, payment infrastructure, or other high-availability systems is beneficial.

Technical Environment

The infrastructure may include AWS or Azure, Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, Linux, Git-based CI/CD, Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, centralised logging, and distributed databases. The successful candidate will contribute to systems where availability, security, and operational consistency are essential.

What This Opportunity Offers

  • Responsibility for improving the reliability of production technology services.
  • Opportunities to develop automation and resilience engineering expertise.
  • Collaboration with platform, security, software, and data engineering teams.
  • Exposure to distributed systems, cloud-native infrastructure, and measurable reliability practices.
  • Professional growth in site reliability engineering and production architecture.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate combines strong infrastructure knowledge with a software engineering mindset. They use monitoring data and evidence to identify failure patterns, automate recurring work, and implement sustainable solutions. They understand that reliability is an engineering discipline requiring prevention, measurement, testing, and continuous improvement.
