Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Full-Stack Engineering Team Lead to guide the development, delivery, and continuous improvement of modern web applications and software platforms. The successful candidate will combine strong hands-on engineering expertise with technical leadership, helping a development team build reliable, scalable, secure, and maintainable software solutions that meet business and customer requirements.

This role covers the full software development lifecycle, including frontend engineering, backend services, database design, API development, testing, deployment, and production support. The Team Lead will establish sound engineering practices, contribute to architectural decisions, review code, resolve complex technical challenges, and support developers in delivering high-quality software.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the technical delivery of frontend and backend development initiatives, ensuring software meets agreed requirements, quality standards, and delivery timelines.

• Design and implement scalable web applications using modern frontend frameworks, backend technologies, and appropriate architectural patterns.

• Establish and maintain engineering standards covering code quality, testing, documentation, version control, and development workflows.

• Review code, provide constructive technical feedback, and help developers improve their implementation quality and problem-solving capabilities.

• Support task planning, technical estimation, sprint execution, and prioritisation in collaboration with product and project stakeholders.

• Design and maintain RESTful APIs, backend services, authentication mechanisms, and integrations with internal and third-party systems.

• Oversee frontend architecture, reusable component development, application performance, responsive design, and accessibility considerations.

• Guide database design, query optimisation, data integrity practices, and efficient communication between application services and data stores.

• Identify technical risks, evaluate implementation alternatives, and recommend solutions that balance maintainability, performance, security, and delivery requirements.

• Coordinate with DevOps and infrastructure teams on CI/CD pipelines, deployment procedures, environment configuration, monitoring, and release management.

• Ensure appropriate automated testing, including unit, integration, and end-to-end tests, is incorporated into the development process.

• Investigate complex production issues, performance bottlenecks, and application defects, coordinating root-cause analysis and corrective action.

• Promote secure coding practices, dependency management, vulnerability remediation, and appropriate access controls throughout the development lifecycle.

• Work with product managers, UX/UI designers, and QA specialists to clarify requirements and ensure delivered functionality meets user expectations.

• Mentor engineers through technical discussions, pairing sessions, knowledge sharing, and structured feedback.

• Identify opportunities to improve development productivity through automation, tooling improvements, and streamlined engineering processes.

• Contribute hands-on to critical features, complex integrations, and technical improvements where engineering expertise is required.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

• At least five years of professional software development experience, with substantial hands-on experience across frontend and backend technologies.

• At least one to two years of experience providing technical leadership, mentoring developers, coordinating delivery, or leading engineering projects.

• Strong proficiency in JavaScript or TypeScript and experience with modern frontend frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.js.

• Practical backend development experience using technologies such as Node.js, Python, Java, C#, or comparable server-side frameworks.

• Experience designing and integrating RESTful APIs, managing application state, and implementing authentication and authorisation mechanisms.

• Strong knowledge of relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or Microsoft SQL Server, alongside familiarity with NoSQL databases where appropriate.

• Experience with Git-based workflows, code reviews, automated testing, and continuous integration and delivery.

• Understanding of application architecture, software design principles, data structures, algorithms, and common design patterns.

• Experience deploying or supporting applications in cloud environments such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.

• Familiarity with Docker, containerised applications, application monitoring, and production troubleshooting.

• Knowledge of web security principles, including input validation, secure authentication, access control, and protection against common application vulnerabilities.

• Demonstrated ability to communicate technical decisions clearly and coordinate effectively with developers and non-technical stakeholders.

• Strong analytical thinking, organisational skills, and the ability to manage competing technical priorities.

Technical Skills and Engineering Environment

Frontend development: React, Angular, Vue.js, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, responsive interfaces, and component-based architecture.

Backend engineering: Node.js, Express, NestJS, Python, Django, FastAPI, Java, Spring Boot, C#, .NET, or equivalent technologies, depending on the existing stack.

API and integration development: REST APIs, JSON, webhooks, third-party integrations, authentication protocols, and service-oriented architectures.

Databases and data management: PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, Redis, MongoDB, database schema design, query optimisation, and transaction management.

Cloud and deployment: AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud; Docker; CI/CD pipelines; environment management; logging; monitoring; and deployment automation.

Testing and quality assurance: Unit testing, integration testing, end-to-end testing, code review, static analysis, and test automation.

Engineering collaboration: Git, GitHub or GitLab, Jira or comparable project management tools, technical documentation, and Agile delivery practices.

Candidates are not expected to master every technology listed. Strong full-stack fundamentals, sound architectural judgement, and the ability to adapt to the organisation’s technology stack are essential.
