Description

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly analytical Senior Reconciliation Analyst to support the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of financial transactions across payment platforms, banking partners, and internal accounting systems. This role is central to ensuring that transaction records align with actual financial movements and that discrepancies are identified, investigated, and resolved within established operational deadlines.

The successful candidate will bring strong experience in financial reconciliation, transaction analysis, settlement verification, and exception management. Working with payments, accounting, treasury, and technology teams, the analyst will help maintain dependable financial records while identifying opportunities to improve reconciliation processes and strengthen internal controls.

This opportunity is suited to a professional who combines technical accuracy with sound financial judgement and is comfortable working with high-volume transaction data in a modern financial technology environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform daily, weekly, and month-end reconciliations across bank accounts, payment processors, internal ledgers, and settlement reports.
  • Investigate unmatched transactions, duplicate entries, missing records, unexpected fees, refunds, reversals, and settlement discrepancies.
  • Analyse transaction-level data to determine the causes of financial differences and coordinate appropriate corrective action.
  • Maintain accurate reconciliation schedules, exception registers, supporting evidence, and resolution records.
  • Verify that settlement amounts correspond with transaction volumes, applicable fees, commissions, and contractual settlement terms.
  • Monitor outstanding reconciliation items and escalate aged, material, or recurring discrepancies to the appropriate stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with banking partners, payment service providers, finance teams, and technical specialists to resolve complex cases.
  • Support month-end and year-end financial close by ensuring that outstanding balances are appropriately explained and documented.
  • Review reconciliation procedures and recommend improvements to reduce manual intervention and recurring errors.
  • Assist with the implementation and testing of automated reconciliation tools, financial reporting systems, and new payment integrations.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing accurate records, reconciliations, and traceable supporting documentation.
  • Maintain compliance with internal financial controls, data protection requirements, and applicable operational procedures.

Candidate Profile

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Demonstrable experience in financial reconciliation, banking operations, payment processing, settlement analysis, or financial control.
  • Strong understanding of general ledger accounts, bank statements, payment transaction lifecycles, and settlement procedures.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets, including complex formulas, pivot tables, and large-data analysis.
  • Familiarity with accounting software, ERP systems, payment platforms, or reconciliation management tools.
  • Ability to investigate complex discrepancies and distinguish timing differences from genuine financial errors.
  • Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing deadlines.
  • Excellent written communication and documentation skills.

Additional Advantages

Experience with SEPA payments, ISO 20022 messaging, SQL-based transaction analysis, multi-currency reconciliation, or automated financial matching systems would be beneficial. Previous experience in a fintech, payment service provider, electronic money institution, or digital banking environment is an advantage.

Performance Expectations

The successful candidate will be expected to maintain accurate reconciliations, reduce the age of unresolved exceptions, improve the quality of settlement records, and contribute to stronger financial control processes.

Ideal Candidate: An experienced reconciliation professional who can investigate financial discrepancies independently, communicate findings clearly, and maintain a high standard of accuracy across complex transaction environments.
