Role Summary

The Senior Payment Infrastructure Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining the technical systems that support digital payment processing and transaction infrastructure.

The position requires strong backend engineering capabilities, knowledge of payment technologies, and experience building distributed systems. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of scalable payment services, improve transaction processing performance, and ensure that critical financial infrastructure remains secure and reliable.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services supporting digital payment processing and financial transactions.

• Build scalable payment infrastructure capable of handling high transaction volumes and demanding availability requirements.

• Develop and maintain integrations with payment gateways, banking systems, financial institutions, and external service providers.

• Implement reliable transaction processing workflows, including payment initiation, authorisation, settlement, and reconciliation.

• Improve system performance through application optimisation, database improvements, and infrastructure enhancements.

• Develop secure API services and ensure effective communication between internal financial platforms.

• Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting mechanisms to identify system failures and operational performance issues.

• Investigate complex production incidents and coordinate technical solutions to prevent recurring disruptions.

• Collaborate with security specialists to implement appropriate encryption, authentication, and access management controls.

• Participate in architecture reviews, technical planning, and engineering design discussions.

• Maintain technical documentation covering system architecture, payment workflows, and deployment procedures.

• Support automated testing and continuous integration processes to improve software quality.

• Work with product and operations teams to translate payment requirements into dependable technical solutions.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline.

• Significant professional experience in backend development or financial technology engineering.

• Strong programming knowledge in Java, Kotlin, Go, Python, or a comparable backend language.

• Experience designing RESTful APIs, microservices, and distributed application architectures.

• Understanding of payment processing, transaction lifecycles, and financial system integrations.

• Practical knowledge of relational databases, SQL, caching systems, and message queues.

• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, containerisation, and automated deployment environments.

• Understanding of secure software development practices and financial data protection.

• Experience troubleshooting high-availability applications and performance-sensitive systems.

• Strong analytical thinking, technical documentation, and problem-solving capabilities.

• Ability to work effectively with distributed engineering teams.

• Professional proficiency in English.
