Description

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Senior Fintech Software Developer to design, develop, and maintain secure, scalable software solutions for modern financial services. The successful candidate will contribute to the engineering of digital banking platforms, payment processing systems, financial APIs, and technology-driven financial applications.

This position is suited to a software development professional who combines strong programming fundamentals with an understanding of financial technology, system reliability, data security, and regulatory requirements. You will work closely with product, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and compliance specialists to translate complex financial workflows into dependable software products.

The role offers an opportunity to contribute to the development of modern financial infrastructure within Estonia’s technology-oriented business environment, with an emphasis on engineering quality, practical innovation, and long-term system performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Software Architecture and Development: Design, implement, test, and maintain reliable software components for fintech platforms, including account services, transaction processing, payment workflows, and digital financial products.

  • Backend Engineering: Develop efficient backend services, business logic, and database integrations using suitable programming languages and frameworks.

  • API Development: Build and maintain secure RESTful APIs and service integrations that enable communication between financial applications, banking partners, payment providers, and third-party platforms.

  • Payment Systems Integration: Support the implementation of payment gateways, transaction validation, reconciliation processes, and real-time payment status updates.

  • Database Management: Design and optimise relational and non-relational databases to ensure data integrity, efficient querying, and reliable handling of financial records.

  • Security and Compliance: Apply secure coding practices, access controls, encryption, audit logging, and appropriate data-protection measures in line with applicable requirements.

  • Testing and Quality Assurance: Develop automated unit, integration, and regression tests to identify defects and protect critical financial processes against unexpected failures.

  • Performance Optimisation: Investigate system bottlenecks, improve application response times, and ensure services remain reliable under increased transaction volumes.

  • Production Support: Diagnose technical incidents, resolve software defects, and contribute to root-cause analysis and preventive engineering improvements.

  • Technical Documentation: Maintain clear documentation covering application architecture, API specifications, deployment procedures, and software maintenance requirements.

Candidate Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or an equivalent combination of education and practical experience.

  • At least four years of professional software development experience, preferably involving fintech, banking technology, payments, or other transaction-intensive applications.

  • Strong proficiency in one or more backend programming languages, such as Java, Kotlin, Python, C#, Go, or TypeScript.

  • Practical experience with application frameworks, API design, database architecture, and distributed software systems.

  • Working knowledge of SQL databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL and familiarity with database performance optimisation.

  • Experience with Git-based version control, code reviews, automated testing, and continuous integration and deployment pipelines.

  • Understanding of authentication, authorisation, secure data handling, and common application security vulnerabilities.

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms, containerisation technologies such as Docker, and production monitoring tools.

  • Ability to analyse complex technical problems, communicate solutions clearly, and work effectively with multidisciplinary teams.

  • Professional English communication skills. Knowledge of Estonian is an advantage but is not essential where English is the working language.

Technical Environment

The successful candidate may work with a modern engineering stack comprising:

  • Languages: Java, Kotlin, Python, Go, C#, or TypeScript.

  • Frameworks: Spring Boot, .NET, Django, FastAPI, or Node.js.

  • Databases: PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis, and other suitable data-storage technologies.

  • Infrastructure: AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, Docker, and Kubernetes.

  • Engineering Practices: CI/CD, automated testing, code review, observability, and infrastructure automation.

  • Financial Integrations: Payment service APIs, banking interfaces, transaction monitoring, and reconciliation services.

The precise technology stack will depend on the platform and the developer’s area of responsibility.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates will receive additional consideration for experience in:

  • Digital banking and payment processing platforms.

  • Open banking integrations and PSD2-related technical implementations.

  • Financial transaction ledgers, settlement workflows, and reconciliation systems.

  • Event-driven architectures, message queues, and microservices.

  • High-availability applications and systems requiring strong consistency and traceability.

  • GDPR-aware software design and secure management of sensitive financial information.

  • Automated deployment, system observability, and incident-response procedures.

Performance Expectations

The developer will be expected to deliver maintainable, well-tested code; contribute to sound technical decisions; improve system reliability; and support the secure delivery of financial software. Success will be assessed through software quality, delivery consistency, defect rates, application performance, documentation standards, and the effectiveness of collaboration with other engineering teams.

Why This Opportunity?

This position provides the opportunity to work on technology that supports real financial operations, from payment execution and account services to secure digital financial products. The successful candidate will have scope to influence technical implementation, improve engineering practices, and develop deeper expertise in financial systems.

The role is particularly suitable for a developer who values technical ownership, structured problem-solving, secure engineering, and the challenge of building software where accuracy and reliability are essential.

Application Profile: Candidates should submit an up-to-date CV outlining relevant software projects, programming languages, fintech experience, and examples of systems or applications they have developed. A portfolio or relevant code samples may be included where appropriate and where disclosure is permitted.
