Description
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Fintech Platform Architect to design, develop, and improve the technology infrastructure that supports modern financial services. This role is suited to a technically strong professional who understands digital banking, payment processing, financial APIs, transaction security, and scalable financial technology platforms.
The successful candidate will translate complex business and regulatory requirements into reliable technical architectures that support secure transactions, operational efficiency, and sustainable product growth. Working closely with software engineers, product specialists, security professionals, and business stakeholders, the architect will help shape the evolution of financial technology solutions serving customers and business partners across Estonia and the wider European market.
Key Responsibilities
-
Platform Architecture: Design and maintain scalable, resilient architectures for fintech applications, digital financial services, and transaction-processing systems.
-
Financial Systems Integration: Develop architectural approaches for integrating payment gateways, banking APIs, identity verification services, and third-party financial platforms.
-
Technical Standards: Establish architecture principles, development guidelines, and integration standards that promote maintainability, performance, and long-term reliability.
-
Security and Data Protection: Incorporate encryption, secure authentication, access controls, audit logging, and data protection principles into platform design.
-
Performance Optimisation: Identify infrastructure bottlenecks, improve transaction-processing efficiency, and support high availability across critical financial services.
-
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with engineering, product, compliance, and operations teams to translate business objectives into practical technical solutions.
-
Cloud Infrastructure: Guide the adoption of cloud-native services, containerisation, automated deployment, and infrastructure monitoring.
-
Technical Documentation: Maintain architecture diagrams, integration specifications, system design documents, and technical decision records.
-
Continuous Improvement: Evaluate emerging fintech technologies and recommend improvements that strengthen platform capabilities and operational resilience.
Candidate Profile and Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software architecture, distributed systems, or financial technology engineering, with the ability to balance technical innovation against security, reliability, and business requirements.
Required qualifications:
-
A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
-
At least five years of experience in software engineering, platform development, technical architecture, or related technology roles.
-
Demonstrable experience designing APIs, distributed systems, microservices, or enterprise application architectures.
-
Familiarity with payment processing, digital banking, financial data integrations, or other transaction-intensive systems.
-
Practical understanding of cloud environments such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud.
-
Knowledge of secure software development, authentication protocols, encryption, and data protection practices.
-
Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and technical documentation skills.
Experience with PSD2/open banking integrations, European financial regulations, event-driven architecture, and high-volume transaction systems would be an advantage.
Technical Environment
The role may involve working with technologies and practices such as:
-
Backend development: Java, Kotlin, C#, Python, or TypeScript.
-
Architecture: REST APIs, microservices, event-driven systems, and distributed applications.
-
Infrastructure: AWS or Azure, Docker, Kubernetes, and infrastructure as code.
-
Data systems: PostgreSQL, Redis, Kafka, and transaction-monitoring pipelines.
-
Security: OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, secrets management, encryption, and role-based access controls.
-
Engineering practices: CI/CD, automated testing, observability, and infrastructure monitoring.
The exact technology stack will depend on the organisation’s existing platform and product roadmap.
What Success Looks Like
Within the first six to twelve months, the successful candidate should be able to contribute to a clear platform architecture roadmap, improve the reliability and maintainability of core financial systems, strengthen integration standards, and help engineering teams deliver secure, scalable fintech products.
Performance will be assessed through architecture quality, system resilience, integration efficiency, technical delivery, and the ability to reduce unnecessary complexity across the platform.
Why This Opportunity
This position offers the opportunity to contribute to the development of modern financial infrastructure in Estonia’s technology-driven business environment. The successful candidate will have meaningful technical influence, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and help build financial products designed for reliability, security, and future growth.
The role is particularly suitable for a professional who enjoys solving complex engineering challenges and wants to apply advanced software architecture principles to real-world financial services.
Ideal candidate: A technically accomplished architect with strong software engineering fundamentals, a security-conscious mindset, and a practical understanding of how dependable technology supports modern financial operations.
