Description

Company Overview

The organisation operates in a technology-oriented financial markets environment where quantitative research, market intelligence, and systematic analysis support the evaluation of foreign exchange markets. Its analytical approach combines historical market data, statistical techniques, and financial theory to investigate currency behaviour and identify measurable relationships across instruments and time periods.

The quantitative strategy function works with research, trading, data, and risk professionals to evaluate market patterns, develop analytical models, and assess the reliability of potential trading signals. The organisation prioritises sound statistical methodology, reproducible research, realistic market assumptions, and transparent reporting of analytical results.

Role Summary

The Quantitative FX Strategy Specialist will investigate systematic relationships in foreign exchange markets and develop analytical frameworks for evaluating currency trends, relative value, volatility, and market behaviour. The role focuses on transforming financial market data into measurable insights that can inform strategy development and market assessment.

The successful candidate will combine quantitative programming skills with knowledge of FX market mechanics. Responsibilities include analysing currency time series, testing hypotheses, evaluating model robustness, and examining how macroeconomic variables and market conditions influence exchange-rate behaviour. The position requires an ability to challenge statistical results, distinguish persistent relationships from temporary patterns, and communicate findings in a form that supports practical decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyse historical and current FX market data to identify statistical relationships, recurring patterns, volatility regimes, and potential changes in currency-market behaviour.

  • Develop quantitative frameworks for evaluating currency momentum, mean reversion, relative value, carry-related factors, and other systematic market characteristics.

  • Investigate relationships between exchange rates, interest-rate differentials, economic indicators, market volatility, and cross-currency movements.

  • Build and maintain research models using Python or comparable analytical programming languages.

  • Apply time-series analysis, regression techniques, statistical inference, and other appropriate quantitative methods to FX market research.

  • Conduct exploratory data analysis and establish data-quality checks to identify missing observations, inconsistent timestamps, outliers, and unreliable inputs.

  • Design backtests and historical simulations to evaluate the behaviour of quantitative FX signals under different market conditions.

  • Account for bid-ask spreads, slippage, transaction costs, liquidity limitations, and execution assumptions when assessing potential strategy performance.

  • Evaluate analytical performance using appropriate metrics, including signal stability, volatility, drawdowns, risk-adjusted returns, and sensitivity to changing parameters.

  • Apply out-of-sample testing, walk-forward analysis, and robustness checks to determine whether observed relationships remain meaningful beyond the original research period.

  • Investigate potential data leakage, look-ahead bias, overfitting, and survivorship-related issues that could distort quantitative conclusions.

  • Compare currency pairs and market regimes to determine whether findings are broadly applicable or dependent on specific conditions.

  • Collaborate with quantitative researchers and trading professionals to assess the practical relevance of analytical findings.

  • Develop automated research workflows, visualisations, and reporting tools to improve the efficiency and consistency of market analysis.

  • Document model assumptions, data sources, testing procedures, results, and limitations in a reproducible format.

  • Monitor the performance of approved analytical models and investigate material changes in signal behaviour.

  • Contribute to improvements in quantitative research standards, model governance, and analytical quality controls.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Quantitative Finance, Financial Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.

  • Relevant experience in quantitative FX research, systematic strategy analysis, financial modelling, or quantitative market analytics.

  • Strong understanding of currency markets, exchange-rate dynamics, interest-rate differentials, liquidity, and volatility.

  • Proficiency in Python and common data-analysis libraries such as pandas, NumPy, SciPy, and statsmodels.

  • Solid knowledge of probability, statistical inference, regression analysis, and time-series modelling.

  • Experience working with financial market datasets, historical price series, or economic data.

  • Familiarity with quantitative backtesting, signal evaluation, and performance measurement.

  • Understanding of the limitations of historical simulations and the importance of realistic transaction-cost assumptions.

  • Knowledge of SQL, data pipelines, version control, or research automation is an advantage.

  • Ability to interpret quantitative findings in the context of actual market structure and trading conditions.

  • Strong problem-solving skills, intellectual curiosity, and attention to analytical detail.

  • Ability to explain statistical results, model assumptions, and research limitations clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Commitment to reproducible research, accurate documentation, and evidence-based conclusions.

  • Ability to work independently and coordinate research activities with distributed teams.

Benefits

  • Remote work arrangement within Estonia, subject to organisational requirements.

  • Opportunity to work on quantitative research involving international currency markets.

  • Exposure to statistical modelling, systematic FX analysis, and data-driven market strategy.

  • Collaboration with quantitative researchers, traders, engineers, and risk specialists.

  • Opportunities to strengthen programming, econometric analysis, and financial modelling capabilities.

  • Access to relevant research tools and market data resources.

  • A working environment that encourages methodological rigour, technical development, and continuous improvement.

Application Instructions

Applicants should submit a CV detailing their quantitative research experience, programming proficiency, knowledge of FX markets, and relevant analytical projects. Examples involving currency time-series analysis, quantitative signals, statistical modelling, or strategy backtesting may be included where appropriate.

Applications should be submitted through the recruiting organisation’s official application channel. Shortlisted candidates may be asked to discuss a quantitative FX research project, explain how they validate a statistical relationship, or demonstrate how they would investigate a strategy whose historical performance deteriorates under changing market conditions.
