A leading fintech environment in Estonia is seeking a Principal Digital Banking Architect to shape the technical architecture behind modern digital banking products and financial services.

This is a senior architecture position for an experienced technology leader who can translate business strategy into secure, scalable, and resilient platforms. You will operate across product, engineering, security, data, compliance, and financial operations to establish architecture capable of supporting sophisticated digital banking services.

Key Responsibilities

• Define target architecture for digital banking platforms and supporting financial services.
• Design scalable architectures for accounts, payments, cards, transfers, and customer-facing financial applications.
• Establish API, microservice, event-driven, and integration architecture standards.
• Evaluate existing platforms and develop modernisation strategies.
• Ensure architectural decisions address scalability, security, resilience, performance, and maintainability.
• Work closely with engineering teams during design and implementation.
• Lead architecture reviews for major products and technology initiatives.
• Collaborate with security and compliance teams to embed appropriate controls.
• Assess third-party banking, payment, identity, and technology integrations.
• Identify architectural dependencies and technical risks before implementation.
• Mentor senior engineers and architects.
• Contribute to long-term technology strategy and platform evolution.

Candidate Profile

• 8+ years of experience in software architecture, digital banking, fintech, payments, or financial technology.
• Strong knowledge of distributed systems, cloud architecture, APIs, databases, and microservices.
• Experience designing transaction-intensive financial platforms.
• Strong understanding of security, identity, resilience, and data-protection principles.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills.
• Proven ability to operate at both strategic and technical levels.

Technical Environment

Cloud-native platforms, microservices, APIs, event streaming, distributed databases, Kubernetes, CI/CD, observability, identity platforms, and automated security controls.
