We are seeking a Principal Backend Payments Engineer to design and build highly resilient transaction infrastructure supporting digital payments, payment orchestration, settlement, and financial integrations.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect high-throughput backend services for payment authorization, routing, processing, settlement, and reconciliation.
• Design distributed transaction workflows with strong guarantees around idempotency, consistency, and transaction integrity.
• Build event-driven microservices for payment lifecycle management and real-time financial events.
• Integrate banking APIs, payment processors, card networks, digital wallets, and external financial platforms.
• Develop resilient mechanisms for retries, transaction recovery, duplicate prevention, and failed-payment handling.
• Optimize backend services for low latency, high availability, and significant transaction volumes.
• Establish observability standards using metrics, structured logging, distributed tracing, and automated alerting.
• Lead architectural reviews and mentor senior backend engineers.
• Drive technical decisions covering databases, messaging systems, caching, API design, and cloud infrastructure.

Qualifications & Experience

• 8+ years of backend software engineering experience, preferably within payments or fintech.
• Advanced proficiency in Java, Kotlin, Go, or Python.
• Strong expertise in microservices, distributed systems, REST APIs, event streaming, and relational databases.
• Experience building mission-critical transaction-processing systems.
• Strong understanding of payment workflows, financial data integrity, security, and production reliability.
