We are seeking a Payments Architect to provide technical direction across payment platforms and financial transaction infrastructure. This is a senior technical position for an architect who understands both the engineering depth and operational complexity of modern payment ecosystems.

Your Mission

You will design and evolve payment architecture capable of supporting high-volume, secure, and resilient financial transactions. Working across engineering, product, security, operations, and compliance functions, you will establish architectural standards and guide the development of payment capabilities from initial concept through production.

Core Responsibilities

• Design scalable architectures for payment processing and transaction platforms.
• Define technical patterns for payment APIs, service integrations, transaction workflows, and financial data exchange.
• Develop architecture strategies supporting card payments, bank transfers, account-to-account payments, and digital payment services.
• Establish integration standards for internal and external financial-service providers.
• Design resilient systems with appropriate redundancy, monitoring, observability, and disaster-recovery capabilities.
• Work with security specialists to strengthen authentication, authorisation, encryption, and transaction-security controls.
• Collaborate with compliance teams on technology requirements related to financial transactions and data.
• Review technical designs and provide architectural guidance to engineering teams.
• Identify architectural bottlenecks and recommend improvements to scalability and reliability.
• Contribute to technology standards, architecture documentation, and engineering governance.
• Assess emerging payment technologies and determine their potential application within the platform.

Technical Environment

• RESTful and event-driven APIs
• Payment gateways and payment orchestration
• Cloud platforms
• Relational and NoSQL databases
• Kafka or comparable messaging technologies
• Kubernetes and containerised infrastructure
• CI/CD pipelines
• Observability and monitoring platforms
• Secure financial-data processing
• API security and identity management

What You Bring

• 7+ years of software engineering or solution architecture experience.
• Significant experience within payments, banking, fintech, or financial infrastructure.
• Strong understanding of distributed-system architecture.
• Experience designing highly available and fault-tolerant platforms.
• Strong knowledge of API design and integration architecture.
• Understanding of financial transaction lifecycles and payment operations.
• Ability to balance technical excellence with commercial and operational requirements.
• Strong documentation and communication skills.
• Comfortable providing technical leadership without relying solely on formal authority.
