Role Summary
The Payment Reliability Engineer will improve the availability, resilience, and operational performance of payment services. Working across software engineering, DevOps, and payment operations, the role will focus on identifying reliability risks, strengthening monitoring and recovery mechanisms, and reducing the impact of incidents on transaction processing.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor payment service availability, latency, error rates, and transaction-processing performance.
- Design and maintain observability solutions using metrics, logs, traces, and actionable alerts.
- Investigate incidents involving failed transactions, service degradation, delayed callbacks, and processing backlogs.
- Develop automated recovery procedures and tools for recurring payment-platform issues.
- Improve resilience through timeouts, circuit breakers, controlled retries, and fault-tolerant service design.
- Establish and maintain service-level indicators, objectives, and reliability reporting.
- Participate in incident response, root-cause analysis, and corrective action planning.
- Work with software engineers to eliminate recurring operational problems and improve deployment safety.
- Support disaster recovery testing, capacity planning, and payment-service continuity initiatives.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience in site reliability engineering, platform engineering, backend operations, or production systems support.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, networking, databases, and service-to-service communication.
- Experience with monitoring and observability platforms such as Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, or equivalent tools.
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, containers, Kubernetes, and CI/CD practices.
- Proficiency in scripting or programming with Python, Go, Bash, or a comparable language.
- Understanding of payment transaction flows, consistency, idempotency, and failure recovery.
- Strong incident management, troubleshooting, and technical communication skills.
Benefits
- Fully remote working arrangement, subject to employment eligibility.
- Opportunity to improve the reliability of critical payment services.
- Collaborative work with platform, security, and payments engineering specialists.
- Professional development and opportunities to expand reliability engineering expertise.
- Flexible working practices and involvement in meaningful infrastructure improvements.
