Description
Position Overview
We are seeking a capable Fintech Blockchain Software Engineer to design, develop, and maintain blockchain-based software solutions that support digital asset services, tokenised financial products, transaction verification, and secure financial infrastructure.
The successful candidate will contribute to the engineering of blockchain applications and supporting backend services, ensuring that distributed systems operate securely, efficiently, and predictably. The role involves smart contract development, blockchain integration, transaction processing, automated testing, and the connection of decentralised components with conventional financial applications.
You will collaborate with backend engineers, security specialists, product teams, and infrastructure professionals to deliver maintainable blockchain solutions that meet defined business and technical requirements. Particular attention will be given to transaction integrity, secure key handling, system interoperability, and the reliability of financial operations.
The ideal candidate combines strong programming fundamentals with practical blockchain development experience and an appreciation of the security and operational demands associated with financial technology.
Key Responsibilities
-
Smart Contract Development: Design, implement, test, and maintain smart contracts for supported blockchain applications, tokenised assets, and digital financial workflows.
-
Blockchain Integration: Develop backend services that connect financial applications with blockchain networks, node providers, wallet infrastructure, and transaction-monitoring services.
-
Transaction Processing: Implement transaction submission, confirmation tracking, status reconciliation, and error-handling mechanisms for blockchain-based financial operations.
-
Smart Contract Security: Apply secure development practices, conduct code reviews, and identify vulnerabilities such as re-entrancy, improper access control, and unsafe external calls.
-
Backend Engineering: Build APIs and supporting services that connect blockchain functionality with customer applications, internal systems, and authorised financial service providers.
-
Wallet Integration: Develop integrations with wallet services and signing infrastructure while following appropriate controls for private-key protection and transaction authorisation.
-
Blockchain Data Processing: Build services to retrieve, decode, validate, and index relevant on-chain events and transaction records for application use.
-
Testing and Quality Assurance: Create unit, integration, and automated tests for smart contracts, blockchain interactions, and associated backend services.
-
Performance Optimisation: Analyse transaction processing delays, network interactions, service bottlenecks, and resource utilisation to improve system efficiency.
-
Technical Documentation: Maintain clear documentation covering contract interfaces, application architecture, transaction workflows, security assumptions, and integration procedures.
-
Incident Investigation: Diagnose failed transactions, unexpected contract behaviour, node connectivity problems, and discrepancies between on-chain activity and application records.
-
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with software engineers, product specialists, and security teams to translate financial product requirements into practical blockchain implementations.
Candidate Requirements
-
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
-
At least three years of software development experience, including practical experience building blockchain applications or distributed financial systems.
-
Proficiency in a programming language such as Solidity, TypeScript, JavaScript, Go, Rust, or Python.
-
Experience with smart contract development, blockchain application architecture, or blockchain-to-backend integration.
-
Familiarity with blockchain development tools such as Hardhat, Foundry, or comparable frameworks.
-
Understanding of blockchain transactions, blocks, event logs, network confirmations, and transaction fees.
-
Experience designing and consuming REST APIs and working with databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.
-
Knowledge of automated testing, Git, code review, and structured software delivery practices.
-
Understanding of common smart contract vulnerabilities and secure handling of cryptographic keys and credentials.
-
Ability to troubleshoot distributed systems and investigate technical issues using logs, traces, and blockchain explorers.
-
Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a disciplined approach to security-sensitive development.
-
Professional English communication skills.
Technical Environment
The successful candidate may work with a technology stack comprising:
-
Smart Contracts: Solidity and the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM).
-
Blockchain Tooling: Hardhat, Foundry, and relevant testing utilities.
-
Application Development: TypeScript, JavaScript, Node.js, Python, or Go.
-
Blockchain Interfaces: Web3 libraries, JSON-RPC, and blockchain node APIs.
-
Backend Infrastructure: REST APIs, PostgreSQL, Redis, and asynchronous processing.
-
Testing and Security: Automated contract testing, static analysis, dependency scanning, and security review tools.
-
Deployment: Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud infrastructure.
-
Monitoring: Transaction tracking, application logging, service metrics, and blockchain event monitoring.
The exact stack will depend on the blockchain networks, digital asset products, and integration requirements supported by the organisation.
Preferred Qualifications
Additional experience in the following areas will be advantageous:
-
Developing smart contracts for token issuance, digital asset management, or tokenised financial instruments.
-
Integrating blockchain functionality with payment services, custody platforms, or financial applications.
-
Working with ERC-20, ERC-721, or other relevant token standards.
-
Implementing blockchain event indexing and transaction reconciliation services.
-
Understanding multisignature wallets, hardware security modules, or institutional key-management systems.
-
Working with blockchain test networks, node infrastructure, and transaction simulation tools.
-
Building applications that interact with multiple blockchain networks.
-
Familiarity with digital asset custody controls, transaction monitoring, and applicable financial technology compliance requirements.
Performance Expectations
Performance will be assessed through smart contract quality, automated test coverage, reliability of blockchain integrations, security findings, transaction-processing accuracy, and maintainability of delivered software.
The engineer will be expected to identify technical risks early, follow secure development practices, maintain clear documentation, and ensure that blockchain components integrate reliably with the wider financial technology platform.
Why This Opportunity?
This role offers the opportunity to contribute to blockchain technology with practical applications in financial services. You will help build the software components that connect distributed ledger infrastructure with usable financial products, focusing on security, interoperability, and dependable transaction handling.
The position is suited to a software engineer who enjoys distributed systems, cryptographic technologies, smart contract development, and solving complex integration challenges. It also provides opportunities to deepen expertise in digital asset infrastructure and blockchain-enabled financial applications within Estonia’s technology sector.
Application Requirements
Interested candidates should submit an updated CV detailing their programming experience, blockchain projects, smart contract development, and relevant software engineering achievements. Applicants may include links to public repositories, technical portfolios, or deployed test projects where available, ensuring that confidential code and proprietary information are not disclosed.
