Position Overview

A growing fintech technology environment in Estonia is seeking a highly capable Fintech Backend Engineer to develop and maintain the core services powering modern digital financial products.

This position is suited to an experienced backend developer who enjoys working with complex financial workflows, high-volume transactional systems, APIs, databases, and distributed services. You will contribute to systems where reliability, security, scalability, and data accuracy are essential.

Working alongside engineers, product specialists, infrastructure teams, and other technology professionals, you will help transform financial requirements into robust backend solutions capable of supporting sophisticated digital services.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services for fintech applications.
• Build and maintain secure APIs connecting internal and external financial systems.
• Develop services supporting payments, accounts, transactions, and financial data.
• Optimise backend performance, reliability, and resource utilisation.
• Work with relational and non-relational databases and improve data-access patterns.
• Implement automated testing and contribute to high engineering-quality standards.
• Investigate production issues and resolve complex technical problems.
• Participate in architectural discussions and technical reviews.
• Integrate third-party financial and technology services.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and modern development practices.
• Implement appropriate authentication, authorisation, and data-security controls.
• Maintain technical documentation for backend services and integrations.
• Collaborate with frontend and infrastructure engineers to deliver complete solutions.

Candidate Profile

• Several years of professional backend development experience.
• Strong proficiency in a language such as Java, Kotlin, Python, Go, C#, or TypeScript.
• Strong understanding of REST APIs, databases, distributed systems, and asynchronous processing.
• Experience with cloud platforms and containerised applications.
• Familiarity with Git, CI/CD, automated testing, and modern development workflows.
• Experience in fintech, banking, payments, or another transaction-intensive environment is highly desirable.
• Strong understanding of software security and data integrity.
• Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative engineering environment.
• Professional English communication skills.
