The Role

A technology-led fintech organisation in Estonia is seeking an Enterprise Payments Architect to define the architecture of next-generation payment infrastructure supporting high-volume, multi-market financial operations.

This is a senior architecture role requiring a combination of payments expertise, distributed-systems knowledge, and strategic technology leadership. You will work across payment orchestration, transaction processing, integrations, settlement, reconciliation, security, and platform resilience.

Key Responsibilities

• Define the target architecture for scalable payment-processing and financial-infrastructure platforms.
• Architect payment orchestration capabilities supporting multiple providers, rails, currencies, and transaction types.
• Design resilient services for authorisation, routing, settlement, reconciliation, refunds, and exception management.
• Establish API and event-driven architecture standards for payment services and external integrations.
• Develop strategies for availability, disaster recovery, observability, performance, and operational resilience.
• Evaluate payment-provider and banking integrations from both technical and architectural perspectives.
• Collaborate with engineering teams on architecture decisions, technical standards, and implementation roadmaps.
• Ensure sensitive financial and customer data is protected through appropriate security architecture.
• Identify architectural bottlenecks and lead modernisation initiatives where required.
• Support product teams in translating complex payment requirements into scalable technical solutions.
• Provide architectural leadership during major platform launches and strategic technology programmes.

Candidate Profile

• 8+ years of experience in software architecture, payments, banking technology, fintech, or financial infrastructure.
• Strong understanding of payment processing, transaction lifecycles, reconciliation, settlement, and financial APIs.
• Proven experience with distributed systems, microservices, event-driven architecture, and cloud platforms.
• Strong knowledge of architectural patterns for highly available and transaction-intensive systems.
• Experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud is advantageous.
• Excellent technical communication and stakeholder-management abilities.
• Comfortable operating at both strategic and detailed technical levels.
