Position Overview

We are looking for a Backend Developer to build and maintain the server-side systems that power digital applications, business platforms, and data-driven services. The role focuses on API development, database architecture, system integration, performance optimisation, and the reliability of production services.

The successful candidate will help transform functional requirements into robust backend components while maintaining high standards for security, scalability, testing, and code quality. You will work closely with frontend engineers, QA specialists, and product teams to ensure that backend services remain dependable as application requirements evolve.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain backend services, application logic, and API endpoints.

• Develop secure, well-structured RESTful APIs and integrate external platforms and services.

• Design database schemas, optimise queries, and maintain data integrity across application workflows.

• Implement authentication, authorisation, input validation, and appropriate access controls.

• Investigate production incidents, diagnose system failures, and resolve technical defects.

• Improve application performance through profiling, caching, query optimisation, and efficient resource management.

• Develop automated unit and integration tests to support reliable releases.

• Maintain technical documentation covering APIs, system architecture, dependencies, and operational procedures.

• Contribute to deployment pipelines, monitoring, logging, and continuous integration practices.

• Participate in code reviews and recommend improvements to system design and maintainability.

Qualifications and Experience

• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.

• Three or more years of experience developing production backend systems.

• Strong programming skills in Python, Java, C#, Go, or Node.js.

• Experience designing APIs, integrating external services, and working with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.

• Familiarity with Git, automated testing, containerisation, and CI/CD pipelines.

• Understanding of application security, distributed systems fundamentals, and common backend design patterns.

• Experience with cloud infrastructure, message queues, caching systems, or observability tools is advantageous.

• Ability to troubleshoot complex technical problems and communicate solutions clearly.

Technical Environment

Python, Java, or Node.js; PostgreSQL; Redis; REST APIs; Docker; Git; cloud infrastructure; automated testing; and CI/CD tooling.
