Role Overview

We are seeking an API & Integration Engineer to develop and support integrations between our platforms, payment service providers, banking partners, merchant systems, and third-party financial services.

In this role, you will help ensure that payment instructions, transaction updates, reconciliation data, and account-related information move reliably between connected systems. You will work closely with backend engineers, payment operations, compliance specialists, and external partners to deliver secure integrations that meet operational and technical requirements.

The ideal candidate combines practical API engineering skills with an understanding of transaction workflows, integration reliability, and the importance of data accuracy in financial services.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain integrations with payment gateways, banking APIs, payment service providers, and merchant platforms.
• Build API connectors and services for payment initiation, transaction status updates, refunds, account information, and related workflows.
• Implement webhook handlers, asynchronous processing, idempotency controls, and retry mechanisms to support reliable transaction processing.
• Work with REST APIs, JSON, OAuth 2.0, mutual TLS, and other relevant integration and security standards.
• Support integrations involving SEPA payments, open banking interfaces, or card payment services where applicable.
• Design transaction validation, error mapping, reconciliation data exchange, and exception-handling processes.
• Investigate failed requests, duplicate events, delayed callbacks, inconsistent transaction statuses, and partner connectivity issues.
• Collaborate with payment operations and finance teams to improve integration monitoring and transaction traceability.
• Apply secure coding practices and appropriate controls for sensitive financial and customer data.
• Maintain technical documentation, integration test suites, partner specifications, and operational runbooks.
• Support production releases, incident investigations, performance optimisation, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent professional experience.
• Demonstrated experience with API development, third-party integrations, or backend software engineering.
• Strong knowledge of REST APIs, HTTP, JSON, webhooks, authentication, and API error handling.
• Experience with at least one backend language, such as Java, Kotlin, Python, C#, or TypeScript.
• Understanding of databases, asynchronous messaging, distributed systems, and reliable transaction processing.
• Familiarity with idempotency, event handling, retry policies, logging, and monitoring.
• Knowledge of payment processing, banking integrations, SEPA, or open banking is an advantage.
• Awareness of secure financial data handling and relevant requirements such as GDPR and PCI DSS, where applicable to the systems being developed.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and cross-functional communication skills.
• Professional working proficiency in English; Estonian language skills are an advantage.
