Description
About the Role
We are looking for an Algorithmic Trading Software Engineer to develop the software infrastructure that connects automated strategies to financial markets. The position focuses on execution services, real-time market-data processing, order-management components, and the integration layers required for dependable electronic trading.
The successful candidate will work on performance-sensitive software where latency, resilience, and correct order handling matter. You will collaborate with quantitative developers, trading operations, and infrastructure specialists to improve the reliability of trading applications and support the deployment of new strategy functionality.
This role is particularly suitable for an engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems, understands distributed systems, and wants to apply strong software engineering practices within financial markets.
Main Responsibilities
-
Design and implement execution services for automated foreign exchange and other supported trading strategies.
-
Develop reliable interfaces between strategy engines, market-data feeds, broker systems, and order-management services.
-
Implement order submission, modification, cancellation, acknowledgement handling, and execution-event processing.
-
Build efficient event-driven components for processing price updates, trading signals, and order-status messages.
-
Apply appropriate validation to prevent malformed orders, duplicated requests, and inconsistent execution states.
-
Investigate latency bottlenecks, network interruptions, message-processing failures, and other performance-related issues.
-
Develop monitoring and diagnostic tools for execution latency, rejected orders, connection status, and system health.
-
Implement resilient recovery mechanisms for interrupted connections, application restarts, and unavailable external services.
-
Collaborate with quantitative developers to integrate new algorithms into existing trading infrastructure.
-
Work with risk and operations teams to implement approved trading limits, exposure checks, and operational safeguards.
-
Develop unit, integration, regression, and performance tests for critical trading components.
-
Support controlled releases, production troubleshooting, and technical incident reviews.
-
Maintain clear documentation of integration specifications, message formats, system dependencies, and recovery procedures.
Candidate Requirements
-
Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
-
Strong programming experience in C++, Java, Python, or a comparable language appropriate to the system architecture.
-
Understanding of network programming, concurrency, asynchronous processing, and event-driven systems.
-
Experience designing and consuming APIs and integrating independent software services.
-
Familiarity with Linux, version control, automated testing, and production debugging.
-
Knowledge of database systems, message queues, logging, and system monitoring.
-
Ability to analyse performance metrics and troubleshoot complex integration issues.
-
Strong attention to detail when working with order states, financial data, and time-sensitive events.
-
Clear communication skills and the ability to collaborate across engineering, quantitative, and trading operations teams.
Experience with FIX protocol, WebSockets, Kafka, high-throughput messaging, market-data normalisation, or low-latency execution systems would be beneficial. Knowledge of exchange or broker connectivity and foreign exchange market conventions is also desirable.
Engineering Standards
The successful candidate must understand that execution infrastructure requires careful handling of state transitions, failures, and recovery scenarios. Software changes should be tested systematically, documented appropriately, and deployed through established release procedures.
The role also requires collaboration with risk and operations teams to ensure that technical components support approved trading controls and that incidents can be investigated using reliable logs and monitoring data.
Why Consider This Role?
This opportunity is suited to an engineer who wants to work on the technical foundations of electronic trading rather than conventional business applications. It provides scope to deepen expertise in financial-market connectivity, event-driven architecture, execution systems, and production-grade software engineering.
