Role Summary

The Senior Payments Engineer will design, develop, and maintain payment processing systems that support digital transactions across multiple payment methods and service providers. The role requires strong software engineering expertise, an understanding of payment workflows, and the ability to build resilient systems that handle transaction processing, reconciliation, and operational exceptions.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain payment processing services, transaction workflows, and payment integrations.
• Build and maintain APIs connecting payment platforms with banks, payment service providers, and external systems.
• Implement secure transaction handling, idempotency controls, retry mechanisms, and failure recovery procedures.
• Improve payment authorisation, capture, settlement, refund, and reconciliation processes.
• Investigate transaction failures, processing delays, and integration-related incidents.
• Apply secure coding practices and contribute to compliance with relevant payment security requirements.
• Collaborate with product, infrastructure, security, and operations teams to deliver payment capabilities.
• Participate in code reviews, automated testing, system monitoring, and technical documentation.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Substantial experience developing backend services or payment-related software systems.
• Proficiency in a language such as Java, Kotlin, Go, Python, or C#.
• Strong knowledge of REST APIs, relational databases, distributed systems, and asynchronous processing.
• Understanding of payment lifecycles, transaction state management, refunds, and settlement processes.
• Experience with automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and production troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with PCI DSS principles and secure handling of payment data.
• Strong analytical skills and professional proficiency in English.
