Role Overview

We are looking for an Embedded-Finance Engineer with strong backend development and payment integration experience to help build the infrastructure behind embedded payment experiences.

You will develop services that connect merchants, business platforms, payment processors, and financial institutions. Your work will support transaction processing, payment status updates, refunds, reconciliation workflows, and other financial operations that require accuracy, security, and resilience.

The ideal candidate understands distributed systems and transaction lifecycles and can build software that handles financial events reliably under changing operational conditions.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain backend services supporting embedded payment functionality and transaction processing.
• Integrate payment gateways, payment service providers, banking systems, and merchant platforms.
• Build APIs for payment initiation, authorisation, capture, refunds, transaction status, and payment reporting.
• Implement reliable event-processing workflows using webhooks, queues, or message brokers.
• Apply idempotency, deduplication, retry policies, and failure-recovery mechanisms to reduce duplicate or incomplete transaction processing.
• Develop transaction validation and reconciliation support services to improve financial data accuracy.
• Work with payment methods and European payment schemes, including SEPA transfers, where relevant to the product.
• Implement monitoring, structured logging, tracing, and alerts for payment-related services.
• Collaborate with payment operations, finance, compliance, and customer support teams to investigate transaction issues.
• Support security controls and applicable requirements relating to financial data, payment processing, and customer information.
• Write unit, integration, and end-to-end tests for critical transaction workflows.
• Participate in production deployments, incident response, and ongoing infrastructure optimisation.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience building backend applications, payment integrations, or transaction-processing systems.
• Proficiency in Java, Kotlin, Python, TypeScript, Go, or another suitable backend language.
• Strong knowledge of REST APIs, webhooks, asynchronous processing, and distributed system principles.
• Understanding of transaction states, idempotency, retries, reconciliation, and eventual consistency.
• Experience with relational databases, message queues, caching, and cloud-based deployment environments.
• Familiarity with automated testing, Git, CI/CD, monitoring, and incident troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of payment gateways, merchant acquiring, SEPA, or payment service provider integrations is an advantage.
• Awareness of secure development practices and PCI DSS requirements where applicable to the systems handled.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively across technical and operational teams.
• Professional working proficiency in English; Estonian language skills are beneficial.
