Key Responsibilities
-
Design, develop, test, and maintain enterprise software applications that support business processes and operational requirements.
-
Translate functional and technical specifications into software components, system integrations, and application workflows.
-
Build and maintain RESTful APIs, backend services, and integration interfaces connecting internal applications with third-party platforms.
-
Develop scalable software components using appropriate programming languages, frameworks, and established engineering practices.
-
Integrate enterprise systems, including ERP, CRM, document management, financial applications, and workflow automation platforms.
-
Analyse existing software architecture and identify opportunities to improve performance, reliability, maintainability, and security.
-
Collaborate with business analysts and stakeholders to clarify requirements, assess technical feasibility, and define implementation approaches.
-
Design and maintain database structures, queries, and data-processing workflows that support enterprise applications.
-
Implement automated testing, code reviews, version control, and continuous integration practices to maintain software quality.
-
Diagnose application defects, integration failures, performance bottlenecks, and production incidents, implementing appropriate corrective measures.
-
Contribute to cloud-based deployments, containerised applications, and infrastructure automation where required.
-
Apply secure coding practices, access-control principles, data protection requirements, and software development standards.
-
Prepare technical documentation covering application architecture, APIs, system dependencies, deployment procedures, and operational support.
-
Participate in application upgrades, system migrations, legacy software modernisation, and technology evaluation initiatives.
-
Work with quality assurance and operations teams to coordinate releases, validate deployments, and maintain service stability.
Qualifications and Experience
-
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
-
At least three years of experience in software engineering, enterprise application development, systems integration, or a related software delivery role.
-
Proficiency in one or more enterprise development languages, such as Java, C#, Python, TypeScript, or JavaScript.
-
Experience developing backend services, APIs, and applications that interact with relational databases and external systems.
-
Strong understanding of software design principles, object-oriented programming, data structures, algorithms, and application architecture.
-
Practical experience with SQL databases such as PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server, or MySQL.
-
Familiarity with enterprise integration patterns, authentication mechanisms, API security, and distributed application environments.
-
Experience using Git, automated testing frameworks, and CI/CD pipelines.
-
Understanding of Agile development methodologies, sprint planning, technical estimation, and collaborative software delivery.
-
Ability to investigate complex technical problems and deliver solutions that balance business requirements, maintainability, and performance.
-
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical decisions to both engineering teams and business stakeholders.
Technical Skills and Development Environment
Programming and frameworks: Java, C#, Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, .NET, Spring Boot, or comparable enterprise development technologies.
Application integration: REST APIs, JSON, webhooks, message queues, event-driven architecture, and third-party service integrations.
Databases and data management: PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MySQL, database optimisation, schema design, and transaction management.
Cloud and infrastructure: Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud; Docker; container orchestration; and cloud application deployment.
Software delivery: Git, GitHub or GitLab, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, code review, and release management.
Enterprise platforms: Familiarity with ERP, CRM, workflow automation, identity management, or document management systems is an advantage.
Security and quality: Secure coding, application logging, monitoring, access control, vulnerability management, and adherence to relevant data protection requirements.
Candidates are not expected to have expertise in every listed technology. Strong engineering fundamentals and the ability to learn the organisation’s existing technology stack are essential.
Key Competencies
-
Solution-oriented thinking: Ability to evaluate technical options and select approaches that address real business problems.
-
Analytical problem-solving: Confidence in diagnosing software defects, integration issues, and system performance challenges.
-
Software quality: Commitment to readable code, automated testing, documentation, and maintainable architecture.
-

-
Adaptability: Willingness to learn new frameworks, enterprise platforms, and evolving software engineering practices.
-
Accountability: Ability to manage assigned development tasks, communicate progress, and deliver reliable outcomes.
-
Technical communication: Skill in documenting system behaviour, explaining design decisions, and communicating implementation risks.
Performance Expectations
The successful candidate will be expected to deliver dependable software features, improve the reliability of enterprise integrations, and resolve technical issues within agreed timelines. Performance will be assessed through software quality, application stability, maintainability, delivery consistency, documentation standards, and the effectiveness of solutions delivered against business requirements.
Additional priorities include reducing recurring application defects, improving automated test coverage, strengthening system integration, and contributing to the continuous improvement of development and deployment processes.
Why This Opportunity
This position provides an opportunity to contribute to enterprise software development and digital transformation initiatives in Estonia’s technology sector. The engineer will work on practical business systems where application reliability, integration quality, and maintainable software design directly support organisational performance.
The role offers exposure to modern development frameworks, cloud technologies, enterprise platforms, and cross-functional software delivery. It also provides opportunities to deepen technical expertise while contributing to the improvement and modernisation of business-critical applications.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a hands-on software engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems and building applications that deliver measurable business value. You understand how individual software components interact within larger enterprise environments, and you can balance technical quality with practical delivery requirements.
You take ownership of your work, approach debugging systematically, and value collaboration, clear documentation, and continuous learning. You are comfortable working with established systems while identifying opportunities to improve architecture, automate repetitive processes, and introduce more efficient engineering practices.
