Description
Position Overview
We are looking for a commercially focused Strategic Operations Director to support international expansion, strengthen operational governance, and develop scalable business processes across multiple markets. Based in Estonia, the successful candidate will coordinate strategic execution across business units, improve the consistency of operational standards, and help ensure that expansion initiatives are supported by appropriate resources, controls, and performance management systems.
This role requires a strong understanding of international business operations, financial performance, organisational risk, and cross-border coordination. The director will work with senior management and functional leaders to evaluate new opportunities, assess operational readiness, and establish processes that allow the organisation to expand without compromising service quality, cost discipline, or governance standards.
Key Responsibilities
-
Develop operational strategies that support market expansion, business diversification, and the organisation’s long-term commercial objectives.
-
Coordinate operational planning across business units, geographic markets, and shared-service functions.
-
Evaluate the operational feasibility of new market opportunities, partnerships, business initiatives, and proposed organisational changes.
-
Establish consistent operating procedures, reporting standards, and performance expectations across relevant departments and locations.
-
Monitor operational expenditure, productivity, capacity planning, and resource utilisation to ensure effective deployment of business resources.
-
Work with finance teams to develop operating budgets, forecast resource requirements, and assess the financial implications of strategic initiatives.
-
Strengthen operational governance by maintaining clear decision-making responsibilities, escalation procedures, and management reporting structures.
-
Identify and evaluate risks associated with market expansion, third-party suppliers, business continuity, operational dependencies, and changing regulatory requirements.
-
Collaborate with legal, compliance, finance, technology, and commercial teams to ensure that business initiatives are implemented within applicable requirements.
-
Assess supplier and service-provider performance, contractual deliverables, and opportunities to improve procurement efficiency.
-
Introduce systems and processes that improve visibility across operations, strengthen data quality, and support timely management decisions.
-
Monitor the performance of strategic initiatives and recommend corrective action where delivery deviates from agreed objectives.
-
Prepare operational reviews and strategic recommendations for executive leadership, highlighting growth opportunities, resource constraints, and material risks.
-
Support business continuity planning and the development of scalable operating procedures for future expansion.
Required Qualifications and Experience
-
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, International Business, Operations Management, Finance, or a related field.
-
A postgraduate qualification in management, strategy, or international business is an advantage.
-
Typically 8–12 years of experience in strategic operations, international business management, corporate planning, or operational governance.
-
Demonstrated experience coordinating complex operations across departments, business units, or international markets.
-
Strong knowledge of business planning, financial controls, operational risk, vendor management, and performance reporting.
-
Experience supporting market entry, organisational scaling, process standardisation, or international expansion.
-
Proficiency in advanced spreadsheet analysis, reporting platforms, ERP systems, and business intelligence applications.
-
Understanding of European business operations and familiarity with Estonia’s business environment is beneficial.
-
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with executives, external partners, and operational teams.
-
Excellent organisational judgement, negotiation skills, and the ability to balance commercial objectives with governance requirements.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a strategic operator who understands that successful expansion depends on more than identifying commercial opportunities. They can assess operational readiness, coordinate multiple stakeholders, establish reliable controls, and ensure that business growth is supported by effective systems and accountable execution.
They should be comfortable working in an international environment, managing complex priorities, and using operational data to identify problems before they affect business performance.
Success Measures
The director will be expected to contribute to improved operational consistency, stronger budget discipline, effective execution of expansion plans, and enhanced visibility across business units. Other measures may include the timely delivery of strategic initiatives, improved supplier performance, reduced operational bottlenecks, and the successful implementation of governance standards.
Why Join the Organisation?
This opportunity offers the chance to influence international business development while establishing the operational foundations required for sustainable expansion. The successful candidate will work closely with senior decision-makers, contribute to high-impact business initiatives, and help build a resilient operating model suited to a changing European and international marketplace.
