Description

About the Company

Our client is a blockchain technology organisation building decentralised financial applications and protocol infrastructure. The company focuses on transparent financial software, robust smart contract architecture, and secure on-chain systems designed to support complex digital asset operations.

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Smart Contract Engineer to lead the technical design and development of decentralised finance protocols. The role involves designing protocol architecture, implementing financial logic, evaluating security risks, and collaborating with engineering and product teams to deliver reliable on-chain functionality.

The successful candidate will bring deep smart contract expertise, strong analytical thinking, and a rigorous approach to testing and security. Experience with DeFi mechanisms such as automated market makers, lending protocols, staking, or liquidity management will be highly valuable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the architecture and development of smart contracts for decentralised financial products.
  • Design protocol components for lending, borrowing, liquidity provision, staking, swaps, or other relevant DeFi use cases.
  • Implement and review Solidity contracts with a focus on security, correctness, composability, and gas efficiency.
  • Assess economic assumptions, protocol incentives, and potential attack vectors alongside product and security stakeholders.
  • Develop comprehensive test suites, including invariant, fuzz, integration, and fork-based tests.
  • Conduct internal security reviews and coordinate with external auditors where required.
  • Analyse vulnerabilities such as price-oracle manipulation, flash-loan attacks, reentrancy, and incorrect access controls.
  • Evaluate oracle integrations, token behaviours, liquidation mechanisms, and other protocol dependencies.
  • Establish smart contract development standards and contribute to engineering best practices.
  • Mentor engineers and provide constructive feedback through code reviews and technical design sessions.
  • Coordinate contract deployments, upgrades where supported, and ongoing protocol maintenance.
  • Investigate incidents and contribute to remediation plans and post-incident reviews.
  • Collaborate with product, research, and infrastructure teams to translate protocol requirements into secure implementations.
  • Monitor developments in DeFi security, blockchain standards, and protocol design.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of software engineering experience, including substantial hands-on smart contract development.
  • Strong proficiency in Solidity and EVM-compatible blockchain development.
  • Demonstrated experience building and deploying production smart contracts.
  • Strong understanding of DeFi architecture and financial mechanisms, such as lending markets, liquidity pools, staking, or automated market makers.
  • Advanced knowledge of smart contract security, threat modelling, and common exploit patterns.
  • Experience with Foundry, Hardhat, fuzz testing, invariant testing, and related testing techniques.
  • Understanding of token standards, price oracles, transaction ordering, and protocol composability.
  • Experience conducting code reviews and collaborating with independent security auditors.
  • Familiarity with protocol monitoring, deployment management, and incident response.
  • Strong technical leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Ability to work independently and guide technical decisions within a remote team.

What We Offer

  • Remote working arrangement from Estonia, subject to company policy.
  • Competitive compensation based on seniority, expertise, and responsibilities.
  • Opportunity to shape the architecture of decentralised financial products.
  • Collaboration with experienced blockchain engineers and security professionals.
  • Access to advanced smart contract development and testing tools.
  • Opportunities to contribute to protocol research, security practices, and technical leadership.

Application Instructions

Candidates should submit a CV outlining their smart contract engineering background and DeFi protocol experience. Please include relevant repositories, technical writing, audit contributions, or examples of production deployments where disclosure is permitted. Applicants should explain their role in the projects and the engineering or security challenges they addressed.

Equal Opportunity Statement: The employer is committed to an inclusive recruitment process and considers applicants fairly based on relevant experience, technical proficiency, and demonstrated capabilities.
