Description
Company Overview
The organisation operates in a regulated financial services environment where effective anti-money laundering controls, transaction monitoring, and customer due diligence are essential to protecting business operations and maintaining trust. Its compliance function works to identify suspicious financial activity, assess potential financial crime risks, and ensure that relevant transactions and customer relationships receive appropriate scrutiny.
The organisation values professional judgement, confidentiality, accurate recordkeeping, and a risk-based approach to compliance. It seeks an AML Analyst who can investigate transaction alerts, evaluate customer activity, identify unusual patterns, and document findings in accordance with established procedures and applicable regulatory requirements.
The successful candidate will work with compliance colleagues, fraud specialists, customer operations, and other relevant teams to investigate potential financial crime indicators. The role requires a methodical approach to reviewing evidence, assessing risk, escalating concerns, and maintaining clear audit trails. The organisation encourages continuous improvement in monitoring processes, analytical consistency, and responsible information handling.
Role Summary
The Remote AML Analyst will support the organisation’s anti-money laundering programme by reviewing transaction monitoring alerts, investigating unusual financial activity, and assessing whether observed behaviour may indicate money laundering, terrorist financing, fraud, or other financial crime concerns.
The role involves reviewing transaction histories, customer profiles, payment patterns, supporting documentation, and relevant risk indicators. The analyst will distinguish legitimate activity from potentially suspicious behaviour, record findings objectively, and escalate cases requiring additional investigation or formal reporting consideration.
The successful candidate will also contribute to the improvement of transaction monitoring procedures, alert-handling standards, and investigative documentation. Working remotely within Estonia, the analyst must manage case workloads carefully, meet agreed service levels, protect confidential information, and communicate effectively with compliance and operational stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Review alerts generated by transaction monitoring systems and assess whether activity is consistent with the customer’s known profile, expected behaviour, and documented source of funds.
- Investigate unusual transaction patterns, including unexpected transaction volumes, rapid movement of funds, unusual counterparties, repeated transfers, and activity inconsistent with the stated purpose of an account.
- Analyse customer transaction histories, account behaviour, payment records, customer risk ratings, and relevant onboarding information to establish the context of suspicious activity.
- Conduct risk-based investigations in accordance with internal AML procedures, applicable legislation, and established escalation requirements.
- Identify potential indicators of money laundering, terrorist financing, fraud, sanctions evasion, and other relevant financial crime risks within the scope of assigned responsibilities.
- Review supporting documentation and relevant customer information to determine whether additional evidence is required to complete an investigation.
- Document investigative steps, evidence reviewed, findings, rationale, and case outcomes in a clear and auditable format.
- Escalate cases involving credible suspicion, significant risk indicators, incomplete explanations, or complex transaction patterns to the appropriate compliance officer or designated decision-maker.
- Support the preparation of internal suspicious activity reports and case summaries for review by authorised compliance personnel.
- Assist with gathering and organising information needed for suspicious transaction reporting, where applicable, under the organisation’s reporting procedures and legal obligations.
- Maintain accurate case records and ensure that decisions are supported by relevant evidence rather than assumptions or unsupported conclusions.
- Apply a risk-based approach to case prioritisation, taking into account urgency, transaction characteristics, customer risk, and internal escalation criteria.
- Work with fraud, payments, customer due diligence, and customer operations teams to clarify information relevant to active investigations.
- Identify recurring alert patterns, potential monitoring gaps, and common sources of false positives.
- Provide structured feedback on alert quality and investigative outcomes to support the refinement of monitoring rules and case-handling procedures.
- Assist with periodic reviews of higher-risk customers and transaction activity when required by internal procedures.
- Maintain awareness of relevant AML requirements, financial crime typologies, regulatory guidance, and emerging patterns of suspicious financial behaviour.
- Support internal compliance reviews, audit requests, and quality assurance exercises by providing accurate case documentation.
- Participate in quality assurance reviews to promote consistency in investigative reasoning, documentation standards, and escalation decisions.
- Handle customer and transaction information in accordance with confidentiality obligations, data protection requirements, and access-control policies.
- Ensure that case communications and investigative records are maintained through approved systems and that sensitive information is not shared through unauthorised channels.
- Contribute to updates of internal procedures, investigative checklists, and guidance materials based on recurring operational findings.
- Meet agreed productivity, accuracy, case quality, and turnaround expectations without compromising the quality of risk assessment.
- Communicate significant investigative findings clearly to senior analysts, compliance officers, and other authorised stakeholders.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Previous experience in AML analysis, transaction monitoring, financial crime investigations, banking compliance, payments compliance, or a closely related role.
- Understanding of anti-money laundering principles, customer due diligence, suspicious transaction indicators, and risk-based compliance controls.

- Understanding of confidentiality, personal data protection, and appropriate handling of sensitive financial information.
