Description
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly analytical Quantitative Analyst to develop statistical models, investigate financial-market behaviour, and generate quantitative insights to support foreign exchange research, trading analysis, and risk assessment. The successful candidate will combine mathematical reasoning, statistical modelling, and programming skills to interpret complex market data and evaluate relationships between currency prices, volatility, liquidity, and macroeconomic indicators.
This position offers an opportunity to work within Estonia’s financial technology and financial-services environment, contributing to data-driven decision-making across foreign exchange markets. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in quantitative methods, an interest in financial-market dynamics, and the ability to transform research questions into reliable analytical solutions.
Key Responsibilities
-
Analyse historical and intraday foreign exchange data to identify market patterns, statistical relationships, and changes in currency behaviour.
-
Develop quantitative models to investigate exchange-rate movements, volatility, correlation, liquidity, and market regimes.
-
Apply statistical methods, regression analysis, probability theory, and time-series modelling to financial-market research.
-
Design and evaluate quantitative indicators that support market analysis, trading research, and exposure monitoring.
-
Conduct historical testing and out-of-sample validation to assess the reliability of analytical models and research hypotheses.
-
Investigate relationships between currency prices, interest-rate differentials, economic releases, and other market variables.
-
Build data-processing workflows to clean, validate, transform, and analyse financial datasets.
-
Use Python, SQL, and appropriate statistical libraries to automate research tasks and improve analytical efficiency.
-
Prepare research reports, model documentation, visualisations, and presentations for research, trading, and risk teams.
-
Evaluate model assumptions and limitations, accounting for transaction costs, data quality, changing market conditions, and statistical uncertainty.
-
Collaborate with software engineers and data specialists to improve research infrastructure and analytical tools.
-
Maintain reproducible analytical workflows, version-controlled code, and clear records of model development and validation.
Qualifications and Experience
-
A bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Quantitative Finance, Physics, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
-
Relevant experience in quantitative analysis, financial modelling, market research, or statistical data analysis.
-
Strong knowledge of probability, statistical inference, regression techniques, and time-series analysis.
-
Proficiency in Python, including libraries such as pandas, NumPy, SciPy, and statsmodels.
-
Working knowledge of SQL and relational databases.
-
Understanding of foreign exchange markets, currency pricing, volatility, and financial time series.
-
Experience with backtesting, model validation, or quantitative research is advantageous.
-
Ability to interpret complex datasets and communicate findings in a clear, structured manner.
-
Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and an evidence-based approach to analytical work.
-
Excellent English communication skills; additional European languages are an advantage.
Technical Environment
The role may involve Python-based analytical workflows, SQL databases, financial-market data feeds, statistical modelling libraries, version-control systems, and business-intelligence tools. Experience with cloud-based data platforms or distributed computing is beneficial but not essential.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is methodical, intellectually curious, and comfortable investigating complex quantitative problems. They understand the importance of data integrity, robust statistical testing, and independent validation. Rather than relying on assumptions or isolated correlations, they can assess whether a finding is statistically meaningful and whether it remains useful under different market conditions.
Performance Expectations
Performance will be assessed through analytical accuracy, research reproducibility, model robustness, data-processing reliability, and the practical usefulness of quantitative findings. The successful candidate will be expected to document assumptions, identify model limitations, and present conclusions supported by verifiable evidence.
What We Offer
-
Exposure to quantitative research across international FX markets.
-
Opportunities to develop expertise in financial modelling and statistical analysis.
-
Collaboration with research, engineering, trading, and risk professionals.
-
A technically focused environment that values analytical rigour and continuous learning.
-
Opportunities to contribute to improvements in research methodology and data-driven decision-making.
