Description
An innovative fintech organisation in Estonia is seeking a Principal Open Banking Engineer to lead the engineering of secure, scalable financial-data and account-access capabilities across modern European banking ecosystems.
This is a senior technical role for an engineer who understands the complexity of connecting financial institutions, APIs, payment infrastructure, identity systems, and customer-facing applications. You will work closely with architecture, product, security, compliance, and engineering teams to build reliable financial connectivity at scale.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop secure open-banking services and financial-data integrations.
- Build resilient API integrations with banks and financial-service providers.
- Develop scalable services for account information, payment initiation, consent, and financial-data exchange.
- Establish robust authentication, authorisation, consent, and access-control mechanisms.
- Design solutions for API reliability, rate limiting, error handling, monitoring, and service continuity.
- Work with product teams to translate customer requirements into technically sound financial integrations.
- Investigate complex integration and production issues and drive permanent solutions.
- Establish engineering standards for testing, observability, security, and maintainability.
- Collaborate with compliance and security teams on technology requirements.
- Mentor senior engineers and contribute to architectural decisions across the platform.
Candidate Profile
- 8+ years of software-engineering experience, with significant experience in fintech, banking, payments, or financial APIs.
- Strong backend engineering skills in Java, Kotlin, Go, Python, or comparable technologies.
- Deep understanding of REST APIs, OAuth, authentication, distributed systems, and event-driven architectures.
- Experience working with financial APIs or open-banking environments.
- Strong knowledge of cloud infrastructure, databases, CI/CD, and observability.
- Excellent technical communication and architectural problem-solving skills.
Technical Environment
Cloud-native services, REST APIs, OAuth-based authentication, microservices, event streaming, relational databases, containerisation, automated testing, CI/CD, and real-time monitoring.
