Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Fintech Payment Gateway Engineer to develop, integrate, and maintain payment gateway solutions that enable secure and reliable digital transactions. The successful candidate will contribute to payment infrastructure used by online merchants, financial service providers, and digital platforms, ensuring that transactions are processed efficiently and that integrations remain stable as business requirements evolve.

This role is suited to a software engineer with experience in backend development, API integrations, and transaction processing. You will collaborate with engineering, product, and payment operations teams to improve payment reliability, strengthen security, and support the introduction of new payment capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain integrations between payment gateways, merchant platforms, banking systems, and third-party payment providers.

• Implement transaction processing workflows covering payment initiation, authorisation, confirmation, refunds, and transaction status updates.

• Build and maintain secure REST APIs, webhooks, and event-driven integrations.

• Investigate failed transactions, duplicate requests, timeout errors, and payment processing inconsistencies.

• Implement idempotency controls, appropriate error handling, and transaction logging.

• Collaborate with payment operations teams to resolve settlement discrepancies and integration-related incidents.

• Conduct integration testing, regression testing, and performance assessments before production releases.

• Apply secure coding practices and protect sensitive payment information.

• Maintain technical documentation, integration specifications, and troubleshooting procedures.

• Contribute to improvements in system availability, transaction monitoring, and payment processing performance.

Candidate Requirements

• A degree or equivalent practical experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.

• Experience in backend development, payment integration, or financial technology engineering.

• Proficiency in at least one language such as Java, Python, TypeScript, or C#.

• Strong knowledge of REST APIs, JSON, webhooks, and authentication mechanisms.

• Familiarity with relational databases, automated testing, and version control.

• Understanding of payment lifecycles, transaction reconciliation, and gateway integration patterns.

• Knowledge of PCI DSS principles and secure payment processing is advantageous.

• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills.
