Description

Position Overview

We are seeking a Fintech Fraud Detection Analyst to help identify suspicious financial activity, investigate potentially fraudulent transactions, and strengthen controls across digital payment and financial service platforms.

The successful candidate will analyse transaction patterns, review alerts generated by monitoring systems, and work with risk, compliance, and operations teams to reduce financial losses while minimising unnecessary disruption to legitimate customers. The role requires sound analytical judgement, attention to detail, and an understanding of emerging fraud risks in digital financial services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review transaction monitoring alerts and investigate unusual account behaviour, payment activity, and potentially fraudulent transactions.

  • Analyse transaction histories, customer profiles, device information, and relevant risk indicators to identify suspicious patterns.

  • Document investigations, evidence, decisions, and recommendations in accordance with internal procedures.

  • Collaborate with AML, compliance, payments, and customer operations teams to escalate cases requiring further review.

  • Support the development and refinement of fraud detection rules, alert thresholds, and investigation workflows.

  • Monitor trends involving account takeover, identity misuse, payment fraud, and other digital financial threats.

  • Prepare periodic reports on fraud patterns, investigation outcomes, emerging risks, and operational performance.

  • Contribute to testing new fraud monitoring tools and evaluating the effectiveness of existing controls.

  • Maintain confidentiality and handle customer and transaction data in accordance with applicable data protection requirements.

Candidate Requirements

  • A degree or equivalent experience in Finance, Economics, Statistics, Data Analytics, Information Systems, or a related discipline.

  • Experience in fraud analysis, transaction monitoring, financial operations, risk analysis, or a comparable analytical role is preferred.

  • Strong analytical and investigative skills, including the ability to recognise anomalies and assess competing explanations.

  • Proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets; SQL and dashboard tools such as Power BI or Tableau are advantageous.

  • Understanding of payment systems, card transactions, digital banking, AML controls, and customer due diligence.

  • Ability to produce clear investigation notes and communicate findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • A structured approach to prioritisation, case management, and evidence-based decision-making.

  • Familiarity with GDPR and the responsible handling of sensitive financial information.

Working Approach

The analyst will work closely with fraud operations, compliance, payments, and data teams. The position combines routine alert reviews with deeper investigations, trend analysis, and continuous improvement of fraud prevention processes.

Why This Opportunity?

You will contribute to the security and reliability of digital financial services while developing expertise in transaction analytics, fraud prevention, and financial risk management. The role provides a strong foundation for further specialisation in fintech risk, financial crime prevention, or fraud strategy.
