Financial platforms increasingly depend on APIs to connect banks, payment providers, identity services, accounting systems, digital wallets, and customer applications. As a Fintech API Engineer, you will build and maintain the integration layer that allows these systems to communicate securely and reliably.

Your Technical Focus

You will work primarily on API design, backend services, integration architecture, authentication, data exchange, and service reliability.

The position is particularly suited to a developer who enjoys backend engineering and wants to specialise in the infrastructure connecting different parts of the financial ecosystem.

What You’ll Build

• Secure REST and event-driven APIs for financial applications.
• Integration services connecting internal platforms with external financial providers.
• Authentication and authorization workflows.
• Transaction and account data services.
• Webhook and event-processing mechanisms.
• API validation, monitoring, logging, and error-handling systems.
• Developer-facing API documentation and integration tooling.

Your Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Design and implement scalable financial APIs.
• Develop backend services using modern programming frameworks.
• Integrate external banking, payment, identity, and financial-data platforms.
• Establish robust validation and error-handling mechanisms.
• Improve API performance, reliability, security, and availability.
• Develop automated tests covering critical integration scenarios.
• Investigate integration failures and production issues.
• Work with security engineers to strengthen authentication and data protection.
• Collaborate with frontend and backend developers on service contracts.
• Contribute to technical standards for API design and integration development.

What You Bring

• 3+ years of professional software development experience.
• Strong experience with backend development and API engineering.
• Proficiency in Java, Kotlin, Python, Go, Node.js, or another comparable technology.
• Strong knowledge of REST, JSON, HTTP, authentication, and API security.
• Experience with SQL and modern database technologies.
• Familiarity with message queues, event-driven architecture, or asynchronous processing.
• Experience with Docker, cloud infrastructure, and CI/CD.
• Strong debugging and problem-solving ability.
• Financial services, payments, open banking, or fintech experience is advantageous.

Technical Excellence Matters

You should be comfortable thinking beyond individual endpoints and considering the complete lifecycle of an API: security, versioning, observability, performance, backward compatibility, failure handling, and maintainability.
