Description

Company Overview

The organisation recognises that dependable business decisions require accurate, consistent, secure, and well-managed data. As information is collected across different systems and departments, maintaining common definitions, clear ownership, appropriate access, and reliable quality controls becomes increasingly important. The organisation is therefore seeking a Data Quality & Governance Analyst to help establish consistent data management practices and improve confidence in business-critical information.

Role Summary

The Data Quality & Governance Analyst will monitor data quality, investigate inconsistencies, maintain governance documentation, and support the implementation of standards that improve the reliability and appropriate use of organisational data. The role will work across business and technical teams to identify quality issues, clarify data definitions, document ownership responsibilities, and help ensure that information is managed according to internal policies and applicable requirements.

Working remotely from Estonia, the successful candidate will combine analytical investigation with structured documentation and stakeholder coordination. The role is particularly suitable for someone who is detail-oriented, comfortable working with databases and spreadsheets, and capable of translating data management requirements into practical controls and repeatable processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor the accuracy, completeness, consistency, validity, and timeliness of data across designated business systems and reporting environments.

  • Develop and maintain data quality rules, validation procedures, exception reports, and monitoring indicators.

  • Investigate recurring data discrepancies by tracing records to their source and working with relevant system owners to determine root causes.

  • Coordinate corrective actions with business teams, data engineers, analysts, and application owners to resolve data quality problems.

  • Maintain data dictionaries, business glossaries, reference tables, metadata records, and documentation describing key data elements.

  • Support the establishment of clear data ownership and stewardship responsibilities across business departments.

  • Review data collection, entry, transformation, and reporting processes to identify weaknesses that may affect information quality.

  • Assist with the implementation of standard definitions for business terms, operational metrics, customer records, and other critical data entities.

  • Produce regular reports summarising data quality performance, unresolved exceptions, recurring issues, and progress against improvement actions.

  • Support data lineage documentation by identifying how important data elements move between source systems, transformation processes, and reporting outputs.

  • Help maintain appropriate data access and handling procedures in cooperation with relevant security, compliance, and technology teams.

  • Contribute to internal reviews of data retention, documentation, and processing practices in line with organisational policies and applicable data protection obligations.

  • Assist with the assessment of new data sources and system changes to identify potential effects on existing reporting and governance controls.

  • Develop guidance and practical documentation to help employees follow established data quality standards.

  • Participate in data governance meetings, record decisions, monitor action items, and follow up with relevant stakeholders.

  • Identify opportunities to automate routine validation checks and reduce dependence on manual data review.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Management, Information Systems, Business Analytics, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • Experience in data quality, data analysis, data governance, reporting, information management, or a related function.

  • Good SQL skills for querying datasets, checking record consistency, identifying duplicates, and investigating discrepancies.

  • Strong spreadsheet skills, including data cleaning, validation, reconciliation, and structured reporting.

  • Understanding of data quality dimensions such as accuracy, completeness, consistency, uniqueness, validity, and timeliness.

  • Familiarity with data dictionaries, metadata management, business glossaries, data lineage, or data ownership concepts.

  • Ability to document procedures, define quality checks, and maintain clear records of findings and corrective actions.

  • Knowledge of relational databases and an understanding of how data moves between applications, databases, and reporting systems.

  • Familiarity with data governance or data quality tools is an advantage.

  • Awareness of data protection principles, information security, access controls, and responsible handling of confidential information.

  • Strong investigative skills and the ability to identify patterns, assess root causes, and recommend practical corrective measures.

  • Excellent attention to detail, organisational skills, and the ability to manage several issues or improvement activities simultaneously.

  • Clear communication skills and the confidence to work with both technical teams and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Professional English proficiency and the ability to collaborate effectively across a distributed working environment.

Benefits

  • Remote working arrangement within Estonia, supporting flexibility and effective collaboration.

  • Opportunity to contribute to the organisation’s data reliability, governance maturity, and reporting standards.

  • Cross-functional exposure to technology, operations, finance, compliance, and business intelligence activities.

  • Opportunities to develop skills in data governance, quality monitoring, metadata management, and information controls.

  • A structured working environment that values accountability, documentation, accuracy, and continuous improvement.

  • The opportunity to influence practical data management standards and help prevent recurring information-quality problems.

Application Instructions

Candidates should submit a current CV outlining their experience in data quality, information management, analytics, or governance-related activities. Applications should include examples of identifying data inconsistencies, developing validation checks, maintaining data documentation, or coordinating corrective actions. Applicants should highlight their SQL and spreadsheet capabilities, attention to detail, and experience communicating data-related findings to different stakeholders.
