Description

Company Overview

The organisation uses data to understand operational performance, monitor business activity, identify trends, and support informed planning. Its teams rely on accurate reporting and meaningful analysis to evaluate results, investigate changes, and identify areas where processes or products may be improved.

The organisation values analytical integrity, clear communication, reliable data, and practical recommendations. It seeks a Data Analyst who can work confidently with structured datasets, build useful reporting tools, and communicate findings in a way that helps stakeholders understand both the results and their business implications.

The successful candidate will work with business teams, data engineers, and other analysts to ensure that reporting requirements are understood, data sources are appropriately validated, and analytical outputs are consistent and useful.

Role Summary

The Remote Data Analyst will collect, clean, analyse, and interpret data to support business intelligence, operational monitoring, and strategic decision-making. The role involves writing SQL queries, preparing analytical datasets, developing dashboards, monitoring key performance indicators, and investigating trends or discrepancies in business results.

The successful candidate will transform raw data into structured insights by combining quantitative analysis with an understanding of business objectives. They will work with stakeholders to define metrics, validate reporting requirements, explain changes in performance, and recommend areas for further investigation.

The position requires strong analytical thinking, attention to data quality, and the ability to present findings clearly. The analyst will also contribute to improving reporting processes, maintaining consistent metric definitions, and ensuring that dashboards and reports accurately reflect the underlying information.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect, clean, validate, and analyse structured data from databases, spreadsheets, business applications, and other approved sources.
  • Write SQL queries to retrieve, join, aggregate, and analyse data for recurring reports and ad hoc business questions.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards and reports using business intelligence tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Looker, or comparable platforms.
  • Define, calculate, and monitor key performance indicators in collaboration with relevant business stakeholders.
  • Analyse trends, patterns, seasonality, and changes in performance to identify potential opportunities, risks, and areas requiring further investigation.
  • Compare results across reporting periods, business units, products, customer segments, or other relevant categories.
  • Investigate discrepancies between reports, dashboards, source systems, and operational records, documenting findings and coordinating corrections where necessary.
  • Perform data quality checks to identify missing values, duplicate records, inconsistent definitions, and other issues that could affect analytical conclusions.
  • Prepare clear summaries, charts, tables, and written explanations that communicate important findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Translate business questions into structured analytical tasks, identifying the required data, assumptions, methods, and appropriate output format.
  • Collaborate with data engineers to clarify source data definitions, improve data availability, and resolve recurring data-quality problems.
  • Work with finance, operations, product, marketing, or other departments to understand reporting requirements and ensure that analytical outputs address relevant business needs.
  • Maintain documentation for data sources, metric definitions, dashboard logic, analytical assumptions, and recurring reporting procedures.
  • Develop reusable queries, spreadsheet models, and reporting templates to improve consistency and reduce repetitive manual work.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, performance reviews, and planning activities by preparing accurate historical data and relevant analytical summaries.
  • Conduct ad hoc analyses to investigate unusual movements, evaluate operational changes, and answer specific business questions.
  • Validate the accuracy of dashboards and reports before publication, ensuring that calculations, filters, and visualisations reflect the intended definitions.
  • Apply appropriate data protection and access-control practices when handling personal, financial, or commercially sensitive information.
  • Identify opportunities to improve dashboard usability, reporting automation, data consistency, and the overall accessibility of business information.
  • Participate in stakeholder meetings to present findings, clarify analytical requirements, and agree on follow-up investigations.
  • Maintain a clear distinction between observed data, calculated results, assumptions, and recommendations.
  • Stay informed about relevant analytical methods, data visualisation practices, and business intelligence tools.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Previous experience in data analysis, business intelligence, reporting, or a related analytical role.
  • Strong SQL skills, including joins, aggregations, filtering, common table expressions, and data validation.
  • Proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets, including pivot tables, formulas, lookups, and structured data analysis.
  • Experience with at least one business intelligence or visualisation platform, such as Power BI, Tableau, Looker, or an equivalent tool.
  • Understanding of descriptive statistics, trend analysis, performance measurement, and appropriate interpretation of quantitative results.
  • Ability to clean and transform data from multiple sources and identify issues that could affect reporting accuracy.
  • Familiarity with relational databases, data warehouses, or analytical datasets.
  • Experience defining or monitoring key performance indicators and translating business questions into analytical requirements.
  • Ability to prepare dashboards and reports that communicate findings clearly without introducing misleading comparisons or unsupported conclusions.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to verify calculations, metric definitions, and data sources before presenting results.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical findings in practical business language.
  • Ability to manage multiple analytical requests, prioritise work, and deliver reports within agreed deadlines.
  • Familiarity with Python or R for data analysis and automation is an advantage.
  • Experience with data modelling, automated reporting, or cloud-based analytics platforms is beneficial.
  • A degree in statistics, economics, mathematics, business analytics, computer science, or a related discipline is advantageous; equivalent practical experience is also valued.
  • Professional proficiency in English is required; knowledge of Estonian is an advantage.

Benefits

  • Fully remote working arrangement within Estonia.
  • Full-time, permanent employment focused on business intelligence, reporting, and data-driven decision support.
  • Opportunities to work with business intelligence tools, analytical datasets, and reporting automation.
  • Collaboration with stakeholders across different business functions to solve practical analytical problems.
  • Opportunities to influence KPI definitions, dashboard design, and reporting standards.
  • Professional development in SQL, data visualisation, analytical methods, and business intelligence technologies.
  • Opportunities to improve data quality and make business information more accessible and useful.
  • A professional environment that values analytical accuracy, clear communication, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
