Description

Company Overview

The organisation operates in the fintech and digital asset services sector, where secure financial transactions, customer verification, and effective financial crime controls are essential to maintaining trustworthy services. Its compliance activities support the responsible use of cryptocurrency platforms and the management of risks associated with digital asset transactions.

The organisation promotes a risk-based approach to compliance, combining documented procedures, transaction analysis, customer due diligence, and effective escalation practices. Experience with Coinbase or another established cryptocurrency exchange, digital asset service provider, or regulated financial institution is relevant to this role.

Role Summary

The Cryptocurrency Compliance Analyst will support the organisation’s anti-money laundering (AML), customer due diligence (CDD), know-your-customer (KYC), and transaction-monitoring activities. The role focuses on reviewing alerts, assessing customer and transaction information, documenting findings, and escalating cases that require additional investigation.

The successful candidate will understand that cryptocurrency transactions can involve complex transaction paths, multiple wallet addresses, and different blockchain networks. They will use available information and approved analytical tools to identify potential indicators of financial crime while avoiding unsupported conclusions based solely on transaction patterns.

Working remotely, the analyst will collaborate with compliance specialists, fraud prevention teams, operations personnel, and other relevant stakeholders. Coinbase or comparable exchange experience will be an advantage, particularly where it includes cryptocurrency transaction reviews, compliance case management, or customer verification.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review alerts generated by transaction-monitoring systems and assess whether the underlying activity requires further investigation.
  • Examine customer profiles, account activity, transaction histories, and supporting documentation to identify inconsistencies or potential risk indicators.
  • Support customer due diligence and enhanced due diligence procedures in line with internal policies and applicable requirements.
  • Review cryptocurrency transactions using approved blockchain analytics tools, exchange records, wallet information, and available transaction identifiers.
  • Identify patterns that may warrant further review, including unusual transaction frequency, unexplained changes in account activity, or potentially suspicious movement of digital assets.
  • Analyse alerts involving potentially high-risk wallet exposure, suspicious transaction patterns, sanctions-related concerns, or other indicators identified by the organisation’s compliance framework.
  • Document investigation steps, evidence reviewed, rationale, and outcomes in a clear and auditable format.
  • Escalate higher-risk cases to senior compliance personnel or the designated reporting function according to established procedures.
  • Assist with the preparation and maintenance of compliance case files, internal reports, review logs, and supporting documentation.
  • Support periodic reviews of customer information and risk classifications where required.
  • Work with fraud prevention, customer operations, and risk teams to investigate cases involving suspected account misuse or unusual financial activity.
  • Help maintain consistent application of AML and KYC procedures across cryptocurrency-related services.
  • Monitor changes to relevant regulatory guidance and internal policies, escalating potential operational implications to the compliance team.
  • Contribute to quality-assurance reviews designed to improve alert handling, investigation consistency, and documentation standards.
  • Protect confidential customer information and follow applicable data-protection, record-retention, and information-security requirements.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • A degree, diploma, or equivalent experience in law, finance, accounting, economics, business, criminology, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in AML, KYC, transaction monitoring, financial crime prevention, fraud analysis, or financial services compliance.
  • Understanding of cryptocurrency exchanges, digital asset transactions, blockchain fundamentals, and common cryptocurrency-related risk indicators.
  • Familiarity with Coinbase or comparable digital asset platforms is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of customer due diligence, enhanced due diligence, sanctions screening, suspicious activity escalation, and risk-based compliance procedures.
  • Ability to review complex information, identify relevant inconsistencies, and distinguish substantiated concerns from activity that requires additional context.
  • Strong written communication skills, particularly when preparing case summaries and documenting investigative reasoning.
  • Experience using case-management systems, screening tools, transaction-monitoring software, or compliance reporting platforms.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive financial and customer records.
  • Ability to manage multiple alerts or investigations while meeting documented service levels and review deadlines.
  • A disciplined approach to following procedures, maintaining audit trails, and escalating matters outside the scope of personal authority.
  • Relevant professional qualifications in AML or financial crime compliance are beneficial but not mandatory where equivalent practical experience is available.

Technical Environment

The role may use KYC and customer-screening platforms, transaction-monitoring systems, blockchain analytics tools, case-management software, secure document repositories, and compliance reporting dashboards. Familiarity with data filtering, spreadsheet analysis, and structured case documentation is useful.

Benefits

  • Remote working within Estonia.
  • Full-time, permanent employment.
  • Opportunities to develop expertise in cryptocurrency compliance and digital financial crime prevention.
  • Exposure to blockchain transaction analysis and risk-based compliance frameworks.
  • Collaboration with compliance, operations, fraud prevention, and risk professionals.
  • Opportunities to contribute to improvements in investigative procedures and compliance documentation.
  • Ongoing professional learning related to digital assets, financial crime controls, and regulatory developments.

Application Instructions

Candidates should submit their CV through the organisation’s designated application channel. Applications should clearly describe relevant AML, KYC, transaction-monitoring, fraud prevention, or cryptocurrency compliance experience.

Applicants are encouraged to outline their familiarity with cryptocurrency exchanges, blockchain analytics, case investigations, and compliance documentation. Any relevant professional qualifications should be included.

Shortlisted candidates may be asked to discuss a hypothetical transaction-monitoring case, explain their investigative approach, and demonstrate how they document findings and escalate potential financial crime concerns. No confidential customer information from previous employment should be included in the application.
