Description
Company Overview
The organisation operates in the fintech industry, where dependable cloud infrastructure and secure application delivery are essential to the operation of digital financial products. Its technology environment supports software development, transaction-related services, application integrations, and the continuous delivery of financial technology solutions.
The infrastructure engineering function is responsible for providing the platforms, automation, monitoring capabilities, and operational controls required to run modern applications reliably. The team focuses on improving deployment consistency, strengthening service resilience, managing cloud resources efficiently, and enabling software engineers to deliver changes safely and predictably.
This remote opportunity is designed for an infrastructure professional who enjoys automation, cloud architecture, operational problem-solving, and collaboration with software engineering teams. The successful candidate will help establish and maintain the technical foundations required for secure, scalable, and continuously available fintech services.
Role Summary
The Cloud Platform Engineer will design, implement, and maintain cloud infrastructure and deployment platforms supporting financial technology applications. The role combines infrastructure as code, CI/CD automation, container orchestration, observability, and reliability engineering.
Working with software developers, security specialists, and other infrastructure professionals, the engineer will help ensure that applications can be deployed consistently across development, testing, and production environments. The position also involves identifying operational weaknesses, automating repetitive tasks, improving incident response procedures, and establishing measurable standards for service performance.
The ideal candidate understands that fintech infrastructure must support more than basic application availability. It must also provide appropriate access controls, dependable recovery procedures, traceable changes, effective monitoring, and disciplined management of production environments.
Key Responsibilities
-
Design, provision, configure, and maintain cloud infrastructure using platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
-
Build and maintain infrastructure-as-code solutions using Terraform, OpenTofu, or comparable tools to promote repeatable and controlled infrastructure changes.
-
Develop and improve CI/CD pipelines that automate application builds, testing, security checks, deployment, and release verification.
-
Manage containerised applications using Docker and Kubernetes or other suitable container orchestration technologies.
-
Establish monitoring, logging, tracing, and alerting capabilities to provide visibility into infrastructure health, application performance, and service availability.
-
Work with development teams to improve application deployment processes, environment configuration, release consistency, and rollback procedures.
-
Implement appropriate cloud security controls, including identity and access management, network segmentation, secrets management, and least-privilege permissions.
-
Support business continuity by developing and testing backup strategies, recovery procedures, infrastructure redundancy, and disaster recovery arrangements.
-
Investigate production incidents, identify underlying causes, coordinate corrective actions, and document lessons learned to reduce the likelihood of recurrence.
-
Monitor infrastructure utilisation and cloud expenditure, identify inefficient resource consumption, and recommend cost-effective improvements without compromising reliability.
-
Develop reusable deployment templates, automation scripts, and platform components that reduce repetitive work for engineering teams.
-
Maintain clear documentation covering infrastructure architecture, deployment procedures, service dependencies, operational controls, and incident response.
-
Collaborate with security and compliance colleagues to support appropriate logging, change management, vulnerability remediation, and evidence collection.
-
Contribute to service reliability objectives by reviewing availability trends, incident frequency, recovery performance, and opportunities for operational improvement.
Requirements and Qualifications
-
Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cloud Computing, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
-
Professional experience in cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, DevOps, systems administration, or site reliability engineering.
-
Hands-on experience with at least one major cloud platform, including its networking, compute, storage, security, and monitoring services.
-
Practical knowledge of infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or OpenTofu.
-
Experience developing or maintaining CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins, or comparable systems.
-
Familiarity with Linux administration, networking fundamentals, DNS, TLS, firewalls, and troubleshooting distributed applications.
-
Experience with Docker and Kubernetes or another container-based deployment environment.
-
Proficiency in scripting or automation using Python, Bash, PowerShell, or a similar language.
-
Understanding of observability practices, service-level indicators, service-level objectives, alert management, and incident response.
-
Knowledge of cloud security, identity management, secrets protection, backup management, and infrastructure recovery principles.
-
Ability to troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues and communicate technical findings clearly to both engineering and non-engineering stakeholders.
-
Experience supporting fintech, payment platforms, banking technology, or other systems with demanding reliability and security requirements is an advantage.
-
Relevant cloud, Kubernetes, security, or DevOps certifications are beneficial but not essential.
Benefits
-
Remote working opportunities within Estonia, subject to applicable employment arrangements.
-
Exposure to modern cloud technologies and infrastructure supporting financial technology services.
-
Opportunities to improve cloud architecture, deployment automation, security practices, and operational reliability.
-
Collaboration with software engineering, security, and product teams on technically challenging projects.
-
Professional development through technical training, knowledge sharing, and relevant certification opportunities.
-
A culture that values automation, documented processes, measurable improvements, and continuous learning.
-
The opportunity to make practical contributions to infrastructure resilience, operational efficiency, and the developer experience.
Application Instructions
Applicants should provide a current CV detailing their experience with cloud platforms, infrastructure automation, containerisation, CI/CD, monitoring, and production support. Candidates are encouraged to describe an infrastructure improvement or reliability initiative they have delivered, including the problem addressed, technologies used, and measurable or observable results where available.
Applications should be submitted through the relevant recruitment platform or official hiring channel associated with the vacancy. The selection process may include a discussion of cloud architecture, a practical infrastructure or automation exercise, and interviews covering security, troubleshooting, deployment strategy, and service reliability.
