Role Summary

The Business Intelligence Analyst will develop and maintain reporting solutions that convert business data into accessible, decision-ready information. The role focuses on dashboard development, data modelling, KPI reporting, requirements gathering, data validation, and the improvement of reporting workflows.

The successful candidate will work closely with stakeholders to understand their information needs, define appropriate performance measures, and build dashboards that communicate results clearly. The analyst will also investigate discrepancies, improve reporting consistency, and support the transition from manual reporting processes to more automated and dependable business intelligence solutions.

This position requires a combination of technical proficiency, business understanding, and communication skills. The ideal candidate can translate broad business questions into structured data requirements, identify meaningful performance indicators, and explain what the available evidence does—and does not—show.

Key Responsibilities

• Gather reporting requirements from business stakeholders and translate them into functional specifications for dashboards, datasets, and analytical reports.
• Develop, maintain, and improve interactive dashboards using Power BI, Tableau, or comparable business intelligence platforms.
• Write SQL queries to extract, combine, aggregate, and transform data from relational databases and analytical data stores.
• Create reusable data models that support consistent calculations, reporting logic, and analysis across different business functions.
• Define, document, and maintain key performance indicators, business metrics, reporting dimensions, and calculation rules.
• Develop reports covering operational performance, customer activity, sales performance, financial indicators, service delivery, or other relevant business areas.
• Analyse trends, performance variations, and relationships between business metrics to identify potential risks and opportunities.
• Validate report outputs against source systems and established business definitions to ensure accuracy and consistency.
• Investigate discrepancies between dashboards, source reports, and operational records, working with relevant teams to resolve underlying data issues.
• Improve dashboard usability through clear visual hierarchy, appropriate chart selection, accessible layouts, and effective filtering options.
• Automate recurring reports and data-refresh processes to reduce manual effort and improve the timeliness of management information.
• Work with data engineers and database specialists to improve data pipelines, source-system integration, and the availability of trusted reporting datasets.
• Support the development of data warehouses, dimensional models, and reporting structures that make business information easier to analyse.
• Monitor scheduled refreshes and reporting processes, identify failures, and coordinate corrective action when data becomes unavailable or inconsistent.
• Maintain documentation covering dashboard logic, data sources, metric definitions, report ownership, and refresh schedules.
• Train and support business users in interpreting dashboards, applying filters, and accessing approved self-service reporting tools.
• Present analytical findings to stakeholders and provide context for changes in performance or emerging business trends.
• Contribute to data governance by promoting consistent definitions, appropriate access controls, and responsible use of business information.
• Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency, reliability, and scalability of the organisation’s reporting environment.
• Participate in project planning, requirements reviews, user acceptance testing, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Analytics, Information Systems, Computer Science, Statistics, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline; equivalent practical experience may be considered.
• At least three years of experience in business intelligence, data analysis, reporting, or a related analytical role.
• Strong SQL skills, including joins, aggregations, common table expressions, and the ability to investigate data discrepancies.
• Practical experience with Power BI, Tableau, or a similar reporting and dashboard development platform.
• Familiarity with data modelling, data warehouses, dimensional structures, and ETL/ELT processes.
• Strong Excel skills and experience working with structured datasets and recurring reporting requirements.
• Understanding of KPI design, business performance measurement, data interpretation, and reporting governance.
• Ability to create clear dashboards that support specific business questions and avoid misleading or unnecessary visual complexity.
• Familiarity with DAX and Power Query is an advantage for candidates working with Power BI.
• Experience with Python, R, or scripting for reporting automation and data preparation is beneficial.
• Understanding of data-quality checks, reconciliation, access permissions, and documentation standards.
• Ability to translate stakeholder requests into clear analytical specifications and deliver practical reporting solutions.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to investigate unexpected results systematically.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present technical findings to non-technical audiences.
• Good organisational skills and the ability to manage several reporting projects or requests concurrently.
• Professional English proficiency and the ability to work effectively with a remote team.

Technical Environment

The role may involve SQL, Power BI, Tableau, Excel, Power Query, data warehouses, ETL/ELT pipelines, and relational database systems. Additional tools may include Python for automation, data-quality monitoring utilities, and collaborative documentation or project-management platforms.
