About the Opportunity

We are seeking a technically proficient BI Developer & Insights Analyst to build scalable reporting solutions and transform complex datasets into reliable business intelligence products.

This position combines dashboard development, data modelling, analytical reporting, and reporting infrastructure improvement. You will work with data engineers, software developers, and business stakeholders to create reusable datasets, implement consistent business logic, and deliver dashboards that support operational monitoring and strategic analysis.

The role is well suited to a professional who enjoys working across the technical and analytical aspects of business intelligence, from preparing source data to designing intuitive visualisations and improving reporting performance.

Key Responsibilities

BI development and dashboard design

• Build and maintain interactive dashboards, analytical reports, and reusable reporting components using Power BI, Tableau, or comparable platforms.
• Translate business requirements into functional specifications, data visualisations, and measurable reporting outputs.
• Develop calculated measures, reporting hierarchies, filters, and drill-through functionality that enable detailed performance analysis.
• Apply visualisation best practices to improve clarity, usability, accessibility, and consistency across reports.
• Manage dashboard updates, publication workflows, and scheduled data refreshes.

Data modelling and transformation

• Design and maintain analytical data models that support consistent reporting across multiple business functions.
• Develop SQL queries, views, and data transformation logic to prepare datasets for analysis.
• Use Power Query, DAX, or equivalent technologies to implement business rules and analytical calculations.
• Work with data engineering teams to improve source data quality, data integration, and the reliability of reporting pipelines.
• Investigate query performance, model size, refresh failures, and other technical issues affecting reporting efficiency.
• Establish validation checks that help ensure consistency between dashboards, source systems, and approved business definitions.

Business analysis and reporting improvement

• Collaborate with stakeholders to define KPIs, establish reporting priorities, and clarify metric calculation rules.
• Analyse performance patterns and exceptions to identify areas that may require further investigation.
• Automate repetitive reporting processes and reduce reliance on manually maintained spreadsheets.
• Maintain technical documentation covering data models, calculations, dependencies, and report usage.
• Support user acceptance testing and gather feedback to improve dashboard functionality.
• Apply appropriate data permissions, row-level security, and information-handling controls.
• Contribute to BI standards, development guidelines, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Technical Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent experience in computer science, information systems, business analytics, data engineering, or a related discipline.
• Demonstrable experience developing business intelligence reports and dashboards.
• Strong SQL skills, including joins, aggregations, subqueries, and query optimisation.
• Practical experience with Power BI or Tableau.
• For Power BI-focused candidates, working knowledge of DAX, Power Query, semantic models, and Power BI Service is expected.
• Understanding of dimensional modelling, including fact tables, dimension tables, and star-schema principles.
• Familiarity with ETL or ELT processes and data warehouse concepts.
• Experience with Git or another version control system is desirable.
• Ability to troubleshoot technical reporting issues and explain design decisions to business stakeholders.
• Professional proficiency in English.

Additional Advantages

Experience with Azure, Microsoft Fabric, cloud data warehouses, dbt, Python, automated deployment workflows, or enterprise reporting governance will be beneficial. Familiarity with financial, customer, product, or operational data is an advantage.
