Position overview

We are seeking a Backend Engineer to help build and operate the services behind our payment infrastructure. The successful candidate will develop dependable backend components, integrate third-party payment systems, and help ensure that transactions are processed accurately, securely, and efficiently.

You will work closely with engineering and product teams to deliver maintainable solutions that meet operational and business requirements.

Your responsibilities

• Develop backend applications and services supporting payment initiation and processing.

• Integrate external payment APIs and handle transaction lifecycle events.

• Design resilient services with appropriate error handling, retry mechanisms, and idempotency controls.

• Support payment reconciliation, transaction reporting, and exception handling.

• Improve database performance and service scalability.

• Implement monitoring, logging, automated tests, and production support procedures.

• Follow secure software development practices and applicable data protection requirements.

• Participate in architecture discussions and continuous improvement initiatives.

Essential qualifications

• Demonstrated experience in backend software development.

• Practical experience with at least one backend language, such as Java, Kotlin, Go, Python, or TypeScript.

• Experience with SQL databases and API development.

• Understanding of distributed systems, concurrency, and fault-tolerant service design.

• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure and containerization technologies.

• Ability to investigate technical problems and deliver maintainable solutions.

• Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

• English proficiency sufficient for technical collaboration.

Preferred qualifications

• Previous experience with payment gateways, card payments, bank transfers, or open banking integrations.

• Familiarity with ISO 20022 or other financial messaging standards.

• Experience with Kafka or similar messaging platforms.

• Knowledge of PCI DSS principles where cardholder data is in scope.

• Exposure to payment operations, settlement, and reconciliation processes.
