Description

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Algorithmic Trading Developer to design, implement, and maintain automated trading systems for financial markets, with a primary focus on foreign exchange and electronic trading. The successful candidate will translate quantitative strategies and trading requirements into reliable software capable of processing market data, generating trading signals, and executing orders through supported trading infrastructure.

This role combines software engineering, financial market knowledge, and quantitative problem-solving. You will work closely with quantitative researchers, traders, and infrastructure engineers to develop trading components, improve execution reliability, and ensure that automated strategies operate within defined risk parameters.

The ideal candidate has strong programming skills, understands event-driven systems, and can build maintainable software for environments where data accuracy, execution quality, and system stability are critical.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, test, and maintain algorithmic trading applications for foreign exchange and other supported financial instruments.

  • Translate quantitative models, trading rules, and strategy specifications into production-quality software.

  • Build components for market-data ingestion, signal processing, order generation, execution monitoring, and position tracking.

  • Integrate trading systems with broker APIs, exchange interfaces, market-data providers, and relevant financial protocols.

  • Implement pre-trade validation, order-size limits, exposure checks, and other controls specified by the trading and risk teams.

  • Develop backtesting and simulation components to evaluate strategy behaviour under historical and simulated market conditions.

  • Analyse execution quality, latency, order rejection rates, slippage, and other operational metrics.

  • Investigate software defects, data inconsistencies, and unexpected trading-system behaviour.

  • Improve system reliability through automated testing, structured logging, monitoring, and fault-handling mechanisms.

  • Collaborate with quantitative researchers to validate model assumptions and ensure that software implementation reflects approved strategy specifications.

  • Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, and controlled deployment procedures.

  • Maintain technical documentation covering system architecture, strategy interfaces, operational dependencies, and recovery procedures.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline; equivalent professional experience is also relevant.

  • Professional software development experience using Python, C++, Java, or another suitable programming language.

  • Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design, and software testing.

  • Experience with APIs, asynchronous programming, database systems, and event-driven application architecture.

  • Familiarity with financial market data, order lifecycles, trading terminology, and electronic execution workflows.

  • Knowledge of statistical analysis, probability, and numerical methods sufficient to collaborate effectively with quantitative teams.

  • Experience with Git, automated testing, Linux environments, and collaborative software development.

  • Strong debugging and analytical skills, with the ability to investigate complex problems systematically.

Experience with FIX protocol, limit order books, broker connectivity, low-latency systems, or forex trading platforms would be an advantage. Familiarity with NumPy, pandas, exchange calendars, and historical market-data processing would also be valuable.

Technical Environment

The development environment may include Python, C++, PostgreSQL, Redis, Linux, Docker, Git, automated testing frameworks, market-data APIs, and broker execution interfaces. Specific technologies will depend on the organisation’s trading architecture and execution requirements.

What Makes This Opportunity Valuable?

This position offers the opportunity to develop specialist expertise at the intersection of software engineering and quantitative finance. You will contribute to the systems that transform trading strategies into operational applications while improving execution reliability, monitoring, and software quality.
