🎯 Role Summary

The Senior Payment Infrastructure Engineer will lead the technical development, maintenance, and optimisation of payment processing infrastructure. The role focuses on building reliable financial transaction systems, improving payment connectivity, and ensuring that payment services operate efficiently across integrated platforms.

Working remotely within Estonia, the successful candidate will collaborate with software engineers, product managers, security specialists, and payment operations professionals to develop scalable payment solutions.

🔑 Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable payment processing infrastructure.

• Build and optimise backend services supporting electronic payment transactions.

• Develop and maintain integrations with banking systems, payment gateways, and third-party financial providers.

• Improve transaction processing reliability, system availability, and payment performance.

• Implement secure API connections and financial data exchange mechanisms.

• Investigate complex payment failures, processing delays, and infrastructure-related issues.

• Develop automated testing procedures for payment processing components.

• Collaborate with security teams to strengthen payment infrastructure protection.

• Monitor system performance and identify opportunities for technical optimisation.

• Participate in architecture reviews and technical planning sessions.

• Maintain engineering documentation and infrastructure specifications.

• Support continuous integration, deployment, and production monitoring activities.

🎓 Requirements and Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.

• At least five years of experience in backend engineering or financial technology development.

• Strong programming experience in Java, Kotlin, Go, Python, or comparable languages.

• Experience developing payment systems, transaction processing applications, or financial APIs.

• Strong understanding of distributed systems and microservices architecture.

• Familiarity with SQL and database performance optimisation.

• Knowledge of REST APIs, authentication mechanisms, and secure data transmission.

• Experience with cloud infrastructure and containerisation technologies.

• Understanding of payment processing workflows and financial transaction management.

• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.

• Excellent communication and technical documentation skills.
