Role Summary

The Senior Payment Reconciliation Specialist will oversee reconciliation activities across multiple payment channels, settlement accounts and financial service providers. The position involves investigating transaction discrepancies, verifying settlement records, monitoring outstanding balances and ensuring that payment-related financial information remains accurate and consistent.

The successful candidate will work closely with payment operations, finance, treasury and technical teams to resolve reconciliation exceptions and improve the efficiency of transaction reporting. This role requires strong financial analysis skills, a detailed understanding of payment flows and the ability to manage large volumes of transaction data within a remote working environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform daily and periodic reconciliation of payment transactions across internal systems, banking partners and third-party payment processors.

• Compare transaction records, settlement reports, bank statements and merchant payment data to identify inconsistencies.

• Investigate unmatched transactions, duplicate entries, delayed settlements and unexplained financial variances.

• Monitor settlement timelines and follow up on outstanding payment discrepancies with relevant service providers.

• Maintain accurate reconciliation records and ensure that unresolved exceptions are properly documented.

• Prepare regular reports covering transaction volumes, settlement performance and reconciliation outcomes.

• Work with finance and treasury teams to validate payment balances and support accurate financial reporting.

• Collaborate with technical teams to investigate system-related discrepancies and improve automated reconciliation processes.

• Identify recurring operational problems and recommend corrective measures to prevent future reconciliation failures.

• Support month-end and period-end financial closing activities by providing verified payment records.

• Review reconciliation procedures and contribute to improvements in operational controls.

• Ensure that payment information is handled in accordance with internal policies and applicable data protection requirements.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration or a related discipline.

• Several years of experience in payment reconciliation, financial operations, banking operations or fintech.

• Practical understanding of payment processing, settlement cycles and electronic transaction flows.

• Experience reconciling large transaction datasets across multiple financial systems.

• Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills, including advanced formulas and data analysis functions.

• Familiarity with SQL, financial reporting platforms or reconciliation software is an advantage.

• Ability to investigate discrepancies and resolve complex financial exceptions.

• Strong numerical accuracy, analytical thinking and organisational skills.

• Excellent written communication and documentation abilities.

• Ability to work independently and coordinate with distributed finance and technology teams.
