Description

Position Overview

We are looking for an ETL / ELT Engineer to develop and maintain the data integration processes that connect operational systems, third-party platforms, and analytical environments. The role focuses on reliable data extraction, transformation, validation, and delivery, ensuring that information is consistent and available for reporting, analytics, and business applications.

You will work with structured and semi-structured datasets, develop reusable transformation logic, and improve the reliability of scheduled and event-driven workflows. Close collaboration with business intelligence analysts, database specialists, and application developers will be essential to delivering accurate and maintainable data integration solutions.

Experience integrating financial platforms, payment systems, customer applications, or enterprise software is advantageous.

Core Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain ETL/ELT workflows that extract data from APIs, relational databases, cloud applications, files, and other approved sources.
  • Build transformation processes that standardise formats, resolve inconsistencies, apply business rules, and prepare datasets for downstream consumption.
  • Develop efficient SQL queries and Python scripts for data extraction, transformation, reconciliation, and validation.
  • Design incremental loading processes and change data capture workflows where appropriate.
  • Integrate REST APIs and third-party data services, accounting for pagination, rate limits, authentication, schema changes, and error responses.
  • Configure and maintain workflow orchestration, scheduling, dependency management, and failure recovery.
  • Implement automated data quality checks covering completeness, uniqueness, referential integrity, and business-rule compliance.
  • Investigate failed jobs, incomplete loads, duplicate records, and discrepancies between source and target systems.
  • Optimise transformation performance and reduce unnecessary data processing.
  • Maintain data lineage information, pipeline documentation, and operational troubleshooting procedures.
  • Coordinate with BI developers and analysts to ensure that transformed datasets meet reporting and analytical requirements.
  • Support deployment workflows and controlled releases for data integration code.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Degree or equivalent practical experience in data engineering, software development, information systems, or a related field.
  • Experience building and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines or data integration workflows.
  • Strong SQL skills, including joins, common table expressions, aggregations, and performance optimisation.
  • Practical Python experience for data manipulation and integration tasks.
  • Understanding of database structures, data types, schema evolution, and transactional consistency.
  • Familiarity with REST APIs, JSON, authentication mechanisms, and external data integration.
  • Experience with a workflow orchestration tool such as Apache Airflow, Prefect, Dagster, or a comparable platform.
  • Knowledge of Git, automated testing, logging, and structured error handling.
  • Strong attention to data accuracy and the ability to investigate technical problems systematically.
  • Professional working proficiency in English.

Preferred Technical Background

Experience with dbt, Apache Spark, Kafka, cloud storage, Snowflake, BigQuery, Azure Data Factory, AWS Glue, or comparable integration technologies will be beneficial. Knowledge of Docker and CI/CD pipelines is an advantage.

Candidates with experience in payment reconciliation, customer data integration, financial reporting pipelines, or enterprise resource planning systems are also encouraged to apply.

Working Approach

We value engineers who treat data integration as a production engineering discipline. Successful pipelines must not only run on schedule but also handle failures predictably, preserve data integrity, and provide sufficient visibility for troubleshooting.

You should be comfortable documenting transformation rules, validating assumptions with stakeholders, and improving existing workflows when reliability or maintainability can be strengthened.

What We Offer

  • Hands-on work with data integration challenges across multiple systems.
  • Opportunities to improve pipeline reliability and automation.
  • Collaboration with data engineering, BI, and application development teams.
  • Professional development in modern integration frameworks and cloud data services.
  • Competitive compensation aligned with relevant experience and technical expertise.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is methodical, dependable, and technically curious. You understand the importance of data accuracy, can trace issues across source and target systems, and take responsibility for building integration processes that other teams can rely on.

Application

Please submit a current CV outlining your ETL/ELT experience, programming skills, database technologies, and relevant integration projects. Examples of pipeline development or data transformation work may be included where available, without exposing confidential information.
