A technology-focused financial organisation in Estonia is seeking a Financial Systems Engineer to design, develop, and optimise high-performance systems supporting modern financial operations. The role sits at the intersection of software engineering, financial technology, transaction processing, and platform architecture.

You will work on systems where reliability, security, data integrity, scalability, and performance are fundamental requirements. This is a technically demanding position for an engineer who enjoys solving complex problems and building infrastructure capable of supporting critical financial workflows.

The Role

As a Financial Systems Engineer, you will contribute to the architecture and implementation of services supporting payments, account processing, transaction management, financial data, customer platforms, and internal financial operations.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Design and develop scalable backend services for financial applications.
• Build reliable APIs and services supporting transaction and account-based workflows.
• Develop systems capable of processing high volumes of financial data with strong consistency and resilience.
• Integrate internal platforms with banking, payment, identity, compliance, and third-party financial services.
• Implement robust validation, reconciliation, monitoring, and exception-handling mechanisms.
• Work with engineering teams to improve system architecture, performance, maintainability, and availability.
• Participate in architectural reviews and contribute to long-term platform engineering decisions.
• Apply secure software-development principles throughout the development lifecycle.
• Investigate complex production issues and implement permanent technical solutions.
• Develop automated testing strategies covering unit, integration, and end-to-end scenarios.
• Improve observability through logging, metrics, tracing, alerts, and operational dashboards.
• Collaborate with DevOps and cloud engineering teams to improve deployment and infrastructure reliability.
• Contribute to technical documentation, engineering standards, and development guidelines.

Technical Environment

Experience with modern backend technologies and distributed systems is highly valuable. Depending on the existing technology environment, relevant experience may include Java, Kotlin, Python, Go, C#, TypeScript, REST APIs, event-driven architecture, SQL, PostgreSQL, Kafka, Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms.

Knowledge of financial systems, payment processing, ledger concepts, transaction lifecycles, reconciliation, fraud controls, or regulated technology environments would be particularly relevant.
