Senior Open Banking Integration Engineer

A forward-thinking fintech organization in Estonia is seeking a highly skilled Senior Open Banking Integration Engineer to build and maintain the financial connectivity layer linking customers, banks, payment providers, and digital financial products.

This position is designed for an experienced integration engineer who understands the complexity of financial APIs and can build dependable connectivity across diverse banking and payment ecosystems. You will play a key role in creating seamless financial experiences while maintaining high standards for security, reliability, data integrity, and API performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop integrations with banks, payment institutions, financial-data providers, and open-banking platforms.
• Build secure APIs and services for account information, payment initiation, transaction data, and financial connectivity.
• Develop resilient integration architectures capable of handling provider-specific differences and service failures.
• Implement authentication, authorization, consent, token management, and secure data-exchange mechanisms.
• Create reliable workflows for financial-data synchronization and transaction processing.
• Develop monitoring and alerting capabilities for API availability, latency, errors, and integration health.
• Work with product and engineering teams to improve customer journeys involving connected financial accounts.
• Design retry, timeout, fallback, and reconciliation mechanisms for external financial integrations.
• Maintain comprehensive technical documentation for APIs, integrations, data flows, and operational procedures.
• Collaborate with security and compliance teams to ensure integrations meet appropriate financial-services requirements.
• Investigate production incidents and lead root-cause analysis for complex integration failures.
• Contribute to architectural decisions around the organization’s financial connectivity platform.

What You Bring

• 5+ years of experience in backend engineering, API development, systems integration, or financial technology.
• Strong experience developing and operating production-grade APIs and third-party integrations.
• Practical understanding of open banking, payment services, banking APIs, or financial-data platforms.
• Strong knowledge of REST APIs, OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, webhooks, JSON, and secure API communication.
• Experience with Java, Kotlin, Python, Go, or another modern backend language.
• Strong understanding of databases, distributed systems, asynchronous processing, and message queues.
• Experience with cloud platforms, Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD practices.
• Strong understanding of API security, encryption, authentication, authorization, and sensitive financial data.
• Excellent troubleshooting skills and a methodical approach to production reliability.

Technical Environment

You may work with REST APIs, OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, webhooks, Kafka, PostgreSQL, Kubernetes, Docker, cloud infrastructure, API gateways, observability platforms, and automated deployment pipelines.
