Description
Company Overview
The hiring organisation operates in the financial technology and foreign exchange sector, where advanced analytics supports market research, forecasting, and financial decision-making. Its data function combines statistical methods, machine learning, and financial-market information to develop analytical capabilities for understanding currency movements and market dynamics.
Role Summary
The Senior Data Scientist will lead the development and evaluation of predictive analytics solutions for foreign exchange markets. The position focuses on designing robust modelling approaches, investigating complex relationships across financial time series, and determining whether analytical signals provide reliable information beyond historical observations.
The successful candidate will combine advanced data science expertise with an understanding of financial markets, taking responsibility for model quality, research methodology, and the practical interpretation of analytical results.
Key Responsibilities
-
Lead the design and development of predictive models using FX prices, macroeconomic indicators, volatility measures, and related financial data.
-
Develop forecasting and classification models to investigate currency-market regimes and changing market conditions.
-
Apply time-series modelling, feature engineering, and machine learning techniques to financial datasets.
-
Design robust validation frameworks that account for temporal dependencies, data leakage, and changing market conditions.
-
Evaluate models using out-of-sample performance, stability analysis, and relevant business or research metrics.
-
Investigate feature importance, model interpretability, and the reliability of predictive signals.
-
Work with quantitative researchers to formulate hypotheses and assess the practical significance of model outputs.
-
Improve data pipelines, experiment tracking, and reproducibility across analytical projects.
-
Communicate research results, uncertainties, and limitations to senior stakeholders.
-
Mentor colleagues on analytical methods and promote consistent data science practices.
Requirements and Qualifications
-
Master’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Econometrics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative discipline; equivalent professional experience may be considered.
-
Substantial experience in data science, predictive modelling, or quantitative financial analytics.
-
Advanced Python skills and experience with machine learning frameworks and data-processing libraries.
-
Strong knowledge of time-series analysis, statistical inference, model validation, and feature engineering.
-
Practical experience building models with rigorous out-of-sample testing and reproducible experiments.
-
Familiarity with FX markets, macroeconomic data, and financial-market volatility.
-
Experience with SQL, cloud-based data platforms, or distributed processing is an advantage.
-
Strong technical communication, project ownership, and critical-thinking skills.
Benefits
-
Fully remote employment within Estonia.
-
Opportunity to lead advanced analytical projects involving global FX markets.
-
Scope to influence modelling standards and research methodologies.
-
Collaboration with experienced quantitative, engineering, and financial-market professionals.
-
Continued development in predictive analytics and financial machine learning.
Application Instructions
Candidates should submit a CV and cover letter through the official application channel specified by the hiring organisation. Applicants are encouraged to provide a portfolio or case study demonstrating predictive modelling, rigorous validation, and experience working with financial or time-series data.
