Description

Company Overview

The organisation develops digital products and software services within the technology and financial services sector. Its platforms require consistent functionality, dependable integrations and a high standard of quality to support customer transactions, digital workflows and day-to-day business operations.

The Quality Engineering & Software Testing department works alongside software development, product management, design and infrastructure teams to ensure that software meets defined requirements and performs reliably across supported environments. The team combines risk-based testing, automated validation and systematic defect management to identify problems early and reduce the likelihood of issues reaching production.

The organisation promotes a quality-focused engineering culture in which testing is integrated throughout the development lifecycle. This includes maintaining reusable automated tests, improving test environments, validating integrations and using test results to inform release decisions.

Role Summary

The Quality Assurance Automation Engineer will design, implement and maintain automated testing solutions that improve software quality, accelerate feedback and support dependable releases. The role involves developing automated test suites, validating application functionality, testing APIs and integrations, and collaborating with developers to investigate defects.

The successful candidate will help define testing strategies that reflect product risks and technical complexity. They will identify high-value automation opportunities, maintain reliable test environments and ensure that automated checks provide useful feedback throughout the software delivery process.

The position requires programming ability, practical experience with testing frameworks and a strong understanding of software development workflows. The ideal candidate will be able to distinguish between functional defects, environment-related failures and unreliable tests, while maintaining clear documentation and communicating findings effectively.

Working remotely within Estonia, the engineer will collaborate with product and engineering teams to improve test coverage, reduce repetitive manual testing and support confident release decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Test automation development: Design, implement and maintain automated test suites using suitable frameworks and programming languages such as Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, Python, Java or TypeScript.

  • Test strategy: Contribute to risk-based test strategies that define the appropriate balance of unit, integration, API, end-to-end, regression and exploratory testing.

  • Functional validation: Translate product requirements and acceptance criteria into structured test cases that verify expected application behaviour and important business workflows.

  • API testing: Develop automated checks for REST APIs and service integrations, validating response structures, status codes, business rules, error handling and relevant security controls.

  • End-to-end testing: Create automated scenarios that validate complete user journeys across web applications, backend services and integrated components.

  • Regression testing: Maintain regression suites that help identify unintended effects from new features, bug fixes, dependency updates and infrastructure changes.

  • CI/CD integration: Integrate automated tests into continuous integration and delivery pipelines so that relevant failures are detected early in the development process.

  • Test data management: Establish repeatable approaches to test data preparation, test account management and environment configuration while avoiding unnecessary exposure of real customer information.

  • Defect investigation: Reproduce reported problems, collect diagnostic evidence, document expected and actual behaviour, and work with developers to determine the cause of failures.

  • Test reliability: Identify flaky tests, unstable dependencies and environmental issues that reduce confidence in automation results. Improve test design and execution stability.

  • Cross-browser validation: Where required, validate application functionality across supported browsers, screen sizes and operating environments.

  • Performance test collaboration: Support performance and load-testing activities by helping define realistic test scenarios and identifying areas requiring further technical investigation.

  • Quality metrics: Monitor relevant quality indicators, including automated test coverage, defect recurrence, failure trends and regression detection effectiveness.

  • Release readiness: Provide clear test results, highlight unresolved defects and communicate quality risks to stakeholders involved in release decisions.

  • Requirements review: Collaborate with product managers and developers to identify ambiguous requirements, missing acceptance criteria and edge cases before implementation is completed.

  • Testing documentation: Maintain test plans, automation guidelines, test execution records and defect reports to support consistent quality practices across distributed teams.

  • Security and data awareness: Follow approved testing procedures and ensure that test activities respect access controls, confidentiality requirements and appropriate data-handling practices.

  • Continuous improvement: Evaluate testing tools, framework design and automation workflows to improve maintainability, execution speed and the value of testing feedback.

  • Knowledge sharing: Participate in code reviews, technical discussions and quality improvement initiatives that strengthen testing practices across the engineering organisation.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.

  • Professional experience in software quality assurance, test automation, quality engineering or software testing.

  • Practical programming experience with at least one language commonly used for test automation, such as Python, Java, JavaScript or TypeScript.

  • Experience with one or more automation frameworks, such as Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, pytest or comparable tools.

  • Understanding of software testing principles, test design techniques, regression testing and risk-based quality assurance.

  • Experience testing REST APIs using automation frameworks or tools such as Postman, REST Assured or equivalent solutions.

  • Familiarity with Git, issue tracking systems and collaborative software development workflows.

  • Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines is an advantage.

  • Ability to investigate failures systematically and distinguish application defects from test instability or environmental issues.

  • Understanding of databases and SQL sufficient to validate data-related application behaviour.

  • Familiarity with web application architecture, HTTP, browser behaviour and common software integration patterns.

  • Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail and the ability to document defects clearly.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with developers, product managers and other quality professionals.

  • Experience testing fintech, digital banking, payment processing or other systems involving business-critical workflows is beneficial.

  • Awareness of test data privacy, access controls and secure software development practices.

  • Professional English proficiency and the ability to work independently within a distributed engineering team.

Benefits

  • Remote working within Estonia, supporting focused technical work and collaboration across distributed engineering teams.

  • Opportunity to improve the reliability and quality of customer-facing digital products.

  • Exposure to modern test automation frameworks, software delivery pipelines and quality engineering practices.

  • Professional development through complex testing challenges and collaboration with experienced developers.

  • Opportunities to strengthen programming, API testing, CI/CD and defect investigation skills.

  • A working environment that values engineering quality, structured problem-solving and continuous improvement.

  • Collaboration with product, software engineering, infrastructure and release management teams.

  • Opportunities to influence testing standards and improve the efficiency of software delivery.

Application Instructions

Applicants should submit an up-to-date CV detailing their quality assurance experience, programming skills, automation frameworks and testing responsibilities.

Candidates are encouraged to describe automation projects they have developed or maintained, explaining the types of applications tested, the testing approach used and the improvements achieved. A public code repository or anonymised testing example may be included where appropriate, provided it does not disclose proprietary code or confidential information.

Shortlisted applicants may be invited to discuss test automation architecture, API testing, regression strategy or the investigation of an unreliable test suite. Candidates should be prepared to explain how they select test cases, prioritise coverage and integrate quality checks into a modern software development workflow.
